Barbers to put skills to test at Lawrence showcase; registration, tickets available
Barbers from Kansas and surrounding states will soon rev up their clippers for a battle of their skills, and the Lawrence community is invited to bear witness. Jermaine “Gametime” Jackson, a longtime Lawrence barber who primarily cuts hair at Watson’s Barbershop, and his colleagues are organizing the second installment of the Cuttin’ Up Barber Showcase. Hosted in Lawrence, the event is designed to bring barbers from all walks of life together in celebration of their craft.
Lenexa roadway reopened after medical issue causes serious collision
LENEXA, Kan. (KCTV) - Police believe a medical issue led to a serious collision in Lenexa that closed a busy road and sent an elderly woman to the hospital. The Lenexa Police Department says that around 2 p.m. emergency crews were called to the 8100 block of Pflumm Rd., near Post Oak Trail, with reports of a single-vehicle collision.

Johnson County Parks and Recreation tells KCTV5 that heavy rain on Tuesday night revealed an old but hateful message that crews attempted to cover several years ago.
Kansas nearing finalized plan for student transportation to football games in 2024
Kansas Athletics is working on a plan to ensure KU students have access to transportation to home football games this fall. With David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium under construction, the Jayhawks are set to play their home games off campus in 2024. KU will play a pair of non-conference games at Children's Mercy Park (the home of Sporting Kansas City) and its four conference games at Arrowhead Stadium (the home of the Kansas City Chiefs).

Consultant hired to look at future of Wichita water plant
The Wichita City Council has approved a contract with an engineering consultant to look at the future of the city’s current water treatment facility. The Main Water Treatment Plant at 1800 West Museum Boulevard was constructed in 1939 and was expanded in 1954. It will be replaced by the new Wichita Water Works plant that has been under construction near 21st and Zoo Boulevard, and the new facility should be completed in early 2025. The new plant will have a capacity of 120 million gallons of water per day.

Prairie Village is considering purchasing a church property on Mission Road that could become part of a still-evolving plan to build a new city hall. At a special city council work session on Monday, discussion of the church appeared to inadvertently come up as councilmembers were hearing about a slightly revised site design layout for a new prospective $30 million city hall plan that the city has been discussing for more than a year.
Sink holes cause problems in Wichita area
Crews were dealing with damage caused by two sink holes on Wednesday, one in Wichita and the other in Bel Aire. A sink hole appeared in the 3200 block of East Douglas, just east of Hillside, in the westbound lanes, and city crews were working to make repairs. Both westbound lanes have been closed to traffic.

HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State women's wrestling head coach Alijah Jeffrey announced the signing of 15 newcomers for the upcoming season. The program heads into its first official season of team competition in 2024-25. The program started in 2023-24 when all of the individuals on the team were allowed to compete unattached in tournaments, but they redshirted to retain their season of eligibility.

The base fee for the project would total $1.5 million with engineering fees another $165,000. Other additions could range from landscaping to parking lot and drainage upgrades. Code compliance issues would need to be addressed.
