A suburban Chicago school district will send students home early for the second day in a row due to a "shortage" of food service workers. In a message posted to its website and social media pages Thursday morning, Ottawa Township High School District 140 said "Due to unforeseen circumstances regarding a shortage of properly certified food service personnel lunch will not be served and students will be dismissed at 11:13 a.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2024, and dismissed at 10:33 a.m. on Friday, August 23, 2024."

Testing continues on using bacteria to remove ammonia from Normal drinking water
The Town of Normal is making progress on an experimental project to remove ammonia from town water by using bacteria. The pilot project began about a year ago. Water Department Director John Burkhart said if it works at scale, the town could save some costs on chlorine, adding the EPA requires water producers to have plans in place to deal with ammonia and may eventually regulate it more tightly.

Illinois home sales, inventory and median prices all increased in July
Home sales, available homes and median home prices all rose across the state in July, according to new data from Illinois REALTORS®. Last month, Illinois home sales rose 6.2% year over year with 13,114 homes sold. Inventory rose similarly, by 6.3%, with 19,494 homes on the market. At the same time, the median sales price hit $308,000: an 8.1% bump.
