BELLINGHAM, WASHINGTON — The much-anticipated Chick-fil-A restaurant at 4030 Cordata Parkway is moving forward with development, As of August 2024, the project is in the advanced stages of the approval process, with several key permits and applications under review.

The new Chick-fil-A will be constructed on a site that has undergone extensive planning and environmental assessments. The project initially began with a pre-application process in May 2023, which closed in June 2023, followed by multiple stages of design review, planned development, and critical areas analysis.

According to city records, the most recent project milestone occurred on July 8, 2024, when the transportation concurrency application was approved. This permit ensures that the transportation infrastructure can handle the increased traffic expected from the new restaurant. However, several other permits, including those related to design review, planned development, and SEPA (State Environmental Policy Act) compliance, remain in a "Request for Information" status as of late July 2024. The project's planners have been actively responding to these requests, providing necessary documentation such as a geotechnical report, stormwater site plan, and traffic impact analysis.

As the project continues to progress, Bellingham residents are excited for the arrival of one of the nation’s most popular fast-food chains, known for its signature chicken sandwiches and "my pleasure" customer service. Stay tuned for further updates as the Chick-fil-A project moves closer to becoming a reality in Bellingham.

The famous chain will bring 80-120 new jobs to the City of Bellingham.
