TACOMA, WASHINGTON — In a nod to tradition and perhaps a bit of flair, the Pierce County Sheriff's Department has officially added cowboy hats to its uniform options for deputies. The department recently announced that the iconic headwear is now an approved part of the uniform.

The department took to social media to share the news, asking the public for their opinions: "Yup, it’s officially part of the uniform. Y’all feeling it? Vote and let us know!" The post quickly garnered attention, with a mix of praise, humor from residents.

Comments ranged from enthusiastic support to light-hearted critiques. Some residents, like Lois, praised the new look, saying, "All the nays from men are because they are jealous of how good our men in uniform look with these hats. It's a yes from me." Others, like Ryan, used the opportunity to voice broader concerns, saying, "If you are trying to be like Texas, then start acting like them and stop letting Inslee pass these unconstitutional gun laws." - But obviously.. The Police have nothing to do with politics.

Heidi, a Tacoma resident, expressed her support for the deputies regardless of their headgear choice: "Wear the cowboy hats! Wear the State Patrol style hats! Wear or don’t wear hats! Hats don’t make an officer or deputy! You are all the best of the best in our country! And I live in Tacoma! Thank you all for what you do to keep our community safe!"

However, not everyone was sold on the idea. Paula commented, "I’d rather see a baseball hat. It’s kinda hard to chase criminals in a cowboy hat…"

The move has certainly caught the public’s attention, with some comparing it to law enforcement traditions in other parts of the country, particularly the South and Texas. While some see it as a fun and fitting addition, others question its practicality in the Pacific Northwest.

Regardless of the mixed reactions, the cowboy hat is here to stay—at least for now. The Pierce County Sheriff's Department is encouraging residents to share their thoughts, and so far, the conversation is anything but dull.
