Bellingham officials have chosen the location for two more restrooms downtown, and they will be Portland Loos similar to the one that was installed recently at Waypoint Park.

City officials have long sought more restroom facilities as a way to attract visitors downtown. The addition of three Portland Loos was announced more than a year ago.

One restroom will be near the Depot Market Square, and the other will be near the Whatcom Transportation Authority bus station, Bellingham spokeswoman Janice Keller said in the city’s weekly newsletter.

“Over the next couple of weeks, you will see construction activity downtown on Railroad at Magnolia and East Chestnut as we install two new public loos. These Portland Loos are the same as the one recently installed at Waypoint Park and are designed to be open 365 days a year. The gender-neutral fabrication, with ample space for wheelchair users or strollers, is easy to clean, resistant to common vandalism, and the open grating and interchangeable components make repairs simple and ensure a natural fresh outdoor scent,” Keller said.

Both restrooms are scheduled to open in mid-July, she said.
