No one has publicly taken responsibility for installing the tall, mirrored slab. But Morning Fresh Dairy Farm took responsibility for taking it down on Wednesday, blaming “the overwhelming influx of people on the farm.”
Richard Kersch told FOX31 he traveled to the monolith from Arvada on Wednesday morning and witnessed crews remove it around 7 a.m. Kersch said he saw a team unbolt the pillar and haul it away with a forklift, as pictured below.

The Colorado monolith is reminiscent of those popularized in the 1968 film “2001: A Space Odyssey,” based on books by Arthur C. Clarke: a rectangular slab nearly twice as tall as an average human and placed upon a natural landscape. The one that appeared near Bellvue had a mirrored exterior.

Lori Graves, the owner of the Howling Cow Cafe on the farm, told FOX31 last week that it had been a boon for business. People were coming into the cafe asking about it.
“It was Sunday morning,” she said, “when someone came into the cafe and said, ‘Where is the monolith? Where is the alien monolith?'”
