New scholarship launches this fall
A locally-driven scholarship may be of interest to local seniors starting September. The Michael E. McGoldrick Scholarship launches this fall, granting $100,000 to three students across Colorado and Washington state in four years at college. It’s designed — by Roaring Fork Valley locals — to help catch the students who may still have a financial need but won’t qualify for the cutoffs set by some other scholarships.

Car smashes through motel room in Fort Collins, miraculously no one injured
Rescue crews in Fort Collins rushed to a motel where a vehicle had smashed through the window of one of the rooms. There were two people and two dogs inside the room and one person in the vehicle when the crash happened. Poudre Fire Authority crews rushed to the scene at 3836 E. Mulberry Street about 11:45 a.m. Tuesday. The people and dogs inside the room were not injured. Crews had to remove one person from inside the vehicle. That person was not injured. The vehicle was almost entirely inside the room and structural engineers examined the building. They determined the building was stable and there was no risk. The vehicle was removed from inside the motel.What led up to the crash is being investigated.

Colorado's record number of water-related deaths so far this year
As Colorado swelters, people naturally take to the water. But this year is on track for a record number of drownings in the state's lakes, rivers and reservoirs. A man who fell off of his inner tube and drowned while on the Arkansas River last weekend became Colorado’s 25th water-related death this season, which is on course to become the worst on record according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials.
