JANESVILLE — Beloit Turner junior Portia Segerstrom cracked the top ten with a steady stretch of golf over the final five holes as she finished eighth at a nine-team mini meet hosted by the Trojans at Glen Erin Golf Club on Tuesday morning.
The meet, the lone one of the season that Turner hosts, was held under semi-clear skies and comfortable temperatures on the course off Airport Rd.
Segerstrom was 11-over par after the fourth hole but hit a solid par as she needed just four shots on the fifth hole.
That seemed to settle the junior in a little as she went one-over par on the next three holes, a solid performance on a day where scores were high.
Segerstrom finished with a 15-over 51 to tie for eighth with four other golfers in the nine-hole event.
Cambridge sophomore Jill Thompson took first place after hitting par on four holes to finish with a 5-over 40. Jefferson senior Annika Bilau was four-shots behind in second at 44 while Lakeside Lutheran senior Reagan Gebhart was third with a 45.
Turner junior Abigail Tahtinen finished in a three-way tie for 15th with a 54 while sophomore teammate Rowan Flanagan placed in a three-way tie for 18th with a 55. Junior Emma Staack was 33rd with a 62 while sophomore Maci Brown rounded up the scoring for the Trojans by placing 40th with a 72.
Clinton’s best golfer was sophomore Emma Ahlert, who finished in a tie for 18th with a 55, helped out by shooting par on the eighth hole.
Junior Rachel Henderickson and sophomore Baylee Morse were not far behind as both finished 22nd as part of a four-way tie by scoring a 57 while Evelyn Millard was in a three-way tie for 29th with a 60. Junior Jayda Wellnitz took 32nd after shooting a 61.
The Blue Jays won the meet with a 198 while Lakeside Lutheran was next at 104. The Trojans were seventh with a 222 and the Cougars placed eighth at 229.
• EDGERTON MEET: The Crimson Tide hosted a nine-team mini meet at Towne Country Club in Edgerton on Monday, and the Trojans finished fourth as a team.
Segerstrom led Turner as she shot a 51 to finish in a two-way tie for fourth place with Cambridge’s Katherine Brown. Flanagan was next for the Trojans with a two-tie at 16th with her score of 55. Tahtinen was next with a three-way tie for 18th as she shot a 56 while Staack was in a two-way tie for 22nd after finishing with a 58. Brown ended in a three-way tie for 34th with a 66.
The Cougars placed sixth as a team after combining for a 231. Wellnitz had a fine day as she finished in a four-way tie for 12th with a 54. Hendrickson was next in a two-way tie for 22nd with a 58 and Ahlert was close behind in a two-way tie for 24th with a 59. Morse ended 26th as she shot a 60 and Millard shot a 66 to finish in a three-way tie for 34th a 66.
Cambridge won the meet after shooting 201 as a team while East Troy was second at 215.
Bilau finished first with a score of 43 while Gebhart was next at 44.
Clinton and Turner will next hit the greens on Friday at 9 a.m. for the Darlington Invitational at Darlington Golf and Country Club.
