ROCKFORD — Despite being just a sophomore, Hononegah boys golfer Rory Ruper rose above a field of experienced linksmen as his strong score of 38 not only was enough to earn him the individual victory, but it lifted the Indians to the team victory in their meet against Harlem at Atwood Golf Course on Wednesday.

Hononegah beat the Huskies by 19 shots, defeating its NIC-10 rivals 160-179 on a warm and humid afternoon.

Indians’ senior Evan Sayles and sophomore Logan Schultz were next on the leaderboard with both shooting 40. The top Huskie was in a tie for third as Harlem’s Koletyn Zanoni and Hononegah sophomore Cole Cooper both finished at 42.

Junior Logan Duhigg finished in fourth for the Indians, shooting a 43 while sophomore Zachary Reynolds scored a 45.

The bottom four golfers on the leaderboard were all Huskies.

    • GIRLS TENNIS: BADGER 5, BELOIT MEMORIAL 1: Beloit’s lone victory was by its No. 2 doubles team as Faviola Estrada-Castro and Mina Alonzo teamed up to defeat visiting Badger’s Ava Pether, 3-6, 7-5, 10-8.

The Purple Knights’ No. 2 doubles team of Gabi Martinez Delgado and Abby Middleon lost a tough 6-2, 7-6 (3) decision to Badger’s Izzie Bailet and Tierney Lentz.

    • BOYS SOCCER: BIG FOOT/WILLIAMS BAY 4, DODGEVILLE/MINERAL POINT 0: Four different Chiefs found the back of the net as Big Foot/Williams Bay got its season off on the right foot with a non-conference shutout over Dodge-Point.

Yeison Santos quickly put the Chiefs (1-0) in front after scoring six minutes into the game. Wyatt Vail knocked in a goal two minutes later as Big Foot/Williams Bay was up 2-0 at halftime.

Mike Alfano took a pass from Tony Salinas and quickly hit a goal to make it 3-0 late in the second half while Clemente Olague scored just a minute later, at the 73:00 mark, for the 4-0 margin.

The Chiefs’ defense was stout with only a handful of shots on goal. Ben Grant was in goal for a half and made a save while Angel Ocampo made two in the second.

    • HINCKLEY-BIG ROCK 8, SOUTH BELOIT 0: Junior Austin Roop and freshman Travis Herrmann both scored a pair of goals as the SoBos fell to the Royals in the season opener.
