FREEPORT, Ill. — If the Hononegah football team was distracted by the week’s chaotic sequence of events, it sure didn’t show on Friday night.

The Indians rumbled for 282 yards on the ground and shut out Freeport 35-0 in NIC-10 action just three days after being forced to forfeit last week’s win over Harlem due to what head head coach Brian Zimmerman termed a “clerical error” that made senior quarterback Dominick Kelly ineligible to play. The coach added that everyone on the roster is eligible moving forward.

But Hononegah stayed steady. Kelly led the vicious running attack 107 yards on just five carries while Kurt Smith rushed for 83 yards on 12 tries, an average of 6.9 per carry.

Kelly got the Indians (4-1) on the board in the first quarter with a 51-yard rushing score. Smith had a 27-yard touchdown in the second and added a 3-yard TD in the third. Drew Shockley entered at QB and hit Camden Rodriguez for a 13-yard score in the fourth before Brock Anderson’s 8-yard touchdown capped the scoring.

Kelly went 2-for-7 for 37 yards through the air while Brayden Lane had 28 receiving yards and added 27 rushing yards.

The Pretzels (3-2) were limited to 40 yards on the ground and finished with just 94 total yards. Smith and Nolan Mabie had a team-high seven tackles while Brady Jarvis had an interception.

    • BRODHEAD/JUDA 18, NEW GLARUS 0: Gabe Bockhop threw for 261 yards and a score while the Cardinals’ defense forced two turnovers to help shut out the Glaner Knights in SWC action.

Brodhead/Juda (2-4, 2-2 SWC) forced a fumble in the first quarter and Brody Riese picked off New Glarus QB Matt Roth in the third. The Knights (4-2, 2-2) threw for 164 yards and were limited to 80 rushing yards.

Bockhop went 20-for-27 while Grayson Arn had 52 yards on the ground with a 5-yard score in the third. David Masloske added a 3-yard touchdown in the fourth.

    • HORICON/HUSTISFORD 41, BIG FOOT 7: Barrett Meyer threw for two touchdowns and rushed for two more as the Marshmen routed the Chiefs in Capitol Conference play.

Meyer went 9-for-14 for 188 yards with scoring throws to Diego Rodriguez, who had 84 receiving yards, and Caleb Peplinski. He added 39 yards on eight carries while Tristian Hearley ran for 113 yards and a touchdown with the Marshmen (2-4, 1-2) totaling 203 yards rushing.

The Chiefs’ Evan Henningfeld hit Owen Smith for a 61-yard scoring throw late in the game but struggled to move the ball outside of that. Henningfeld had 88 passing yards and Big Foot (1-5, 0-4) only ran for -10 yards.

    • CAMBRIA-FRIESLAND 62, PARKVIEW/ALBANY 6: Vikings’ QB Mathias Treinen hit Caleb Smith for a 60-yard passing touchdown but it was all Hilltoppers outside of that in Trailways Conference action.

Treinen finished with 107 passing yards with Corbin Williams accounting for 37 of those yards. The Vikings only managed 3 rushing yards, however.

Cambria-Friesland scored 27 points in the first quarter and was up 32-0 by halftime. Carter Drews scored four times as he ran nine times for a whopping 232 yards as the Hilltoppers finished with 474 rushing yards.

    • STILLMAN VALLEY 48, NORTH BOONE 7: The Cardinals ran wild over the Vikings, accumulating 459 rushing yards and scoring five times on running plays in the first half for the Big Northern Conference win.

Brock Needs paced Stillman Valley’s balanced backfield with 103 yards while Jaxon Barrett added 93 yards and two scores. The Cardinals (3-2) limited North Boone’s passing attack as Brandon Slater went just 7-for-21 for 49 yards with an interception. Eli Bryan came in and went 2-for-2 with a 9-yard rushing score in the third quarter to prevent a shutout

The Vikings (2-3) totaled just 155 yards of offense as Bryan paced the rushing attack with 33 yards and Connor CHamberlain added 21. Bradley Dahl had 30 receiving yards.

    • COLUMBUS 42, CLINTON 7: Owen Cowell romped for 122 yards on 12 caries and added two scores as the Cougars’ were defeated by the powerhouse Cardinals in Capitol play.

Columbus (6-0, 4-0) ran for 364 total yards as Conner Roche added 91 yards to the rushing fest. Cowell scored twice in the second quarter and Clinton (2-4, 1-2) threw a pick-six to give the Cardinals a 27-0 lead at halftime.

QB Jacob Schoonover had 95 total yards to lead the Cougars’ run game, which finished with 160. Payton Hanson, who shares QB duties with Schoonover, added 51. Hanson also went 4-for-8 with 110 passing yards and a touchdown throw to Gavin Wesling, who had 108 reception yards.

Clinton turned the ball over on downs three times.
