HEBRON, Ill. — Landen Reed’s 17-yard touchdown throw to Cam Meister in the fourth quarter proved to be all South Beloit needed on a night where defense reigned supreme.

Alden-Hebron limited the SoBos to 268 total yards of offense but South Beloit’s defenders were even more stout, keeping the Green Giants out of the end zone for 60 minutes in a 6-0 victory on Friday that punched South Beloit’s ticket to the playoffs.

With the SoBos’ 5-1 record, they have automatically earned an Illinois eight-man postseason berth in the 16-team field.

Reed went 3-for-7 with 31 yards with his connection on Meister’s lone catch the most important of the game. Daniel Winterland added 10 yards on his reception.

The SoBos’ run game was strong with Chase Herrington’s 135 yards on 21 carries leading the 237-yard attack. Trudane Peterson added 79 yards on 19 carries.

South Beloit’s defense used some thievery to keep Alden-Hebron (2-5) off the board. Jacob Wilhite and Daniel Winterland each had an interception. Herrington paced the SoBos with nine tackles while Keyon Floyd added five.
