NIC-10 All-Stars sweep Rising Stars games at Rock Valley College
ROCKFORD — The NIC-10 all-stars swept the 26th annual Rising Stars senior all-star game at Rock Valley College Saturday night, with five Hononegah players sharing in the celebration. The NIC-10 girls squad, which included Hononegah’s Olivia Robinson, Jordan Johnston and Allyson Niedfeldt, defeated a team of area stars 66-61. Rockford Boylan’s Lily Esparza earned MVP honors as the 6-foot-3 University of Denver recruit finished with 11 points and 14 rebounds....
PREP SOFTBALL: Hononegah goes 4-0 over weekend
Hononegah’s softball team swept three games in the Antioch Invitational on Saturday to run its win-streak to eight games and its overall record to 9-1. The Indians improved to 3-0 in NIC-10 play Friday by flattening host Rockford East 12-0 in five innings. PEORIA, Ill.—The Beloit Sky Carp were down 4-1 against the Peoria Chiefs and, as was the case several times in the six-game series, its bats just couldn’t seem to get going. Local MMA fighter Alex Polizzi loses PFL debut in Las Vegas
Beloit native Alex Polizzi and Bellator MMA fighter held on as long as possible, but was finally knocked out in the first round by Impa Kasanganay Fright night in the main event of the Professional Fighters League in Las Vegas, Nevada. Light heavyweight Kasanganay took charge in the first round of the PFL 2 event at The Theater at Virgin Hotel. He knocked Polizzi down (10-4), but the Beloit fighter was able to get up. Kasanganay then landed several more shots before the referee stepped in to stop the fight at 3:29. Polizzi didn’t go down, but was slumped against the cage. With the victory, defending champion Kasanganay (16-4) earned six points in the PFL Light Heavyweight Tournament. In addition to Kasanganay, Rob Wilkinson (18-2), Josh Silveira (13-2), Antonio Carlos Jr. (16-5) and Dovletdzhan Yagshimuradov (22-7-1) all posted first-round wins.
