SEBRING – A Beloit woman who was struck by a train earlier this month has died from her injuries.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed that 21-year-old Allison Carter was pronounced dead at 4:25 p.m. Friday at Summa Health System Akron Campus.

"She was a Valentine's Day baby," said Carter's godmother Amy Coleman-Monk, a longtime family friend. "She was living at home, helping her mom. She'll be forever 21."

Carter was with 21-year-old Michael Lawson Jr. of Alliance, who was killed, when they were struck by an Amtrak passenger train around 2 a.m. July 15 in Sebring. The collision occurred on the Norfolk Southern line near Pennsylvania Avenue between 16th and 17th streets.

Coleman-Monk said she also knew Lawson through his family.

Troopers from the Canfield post said Carter and Lawson were walking next to the tracks before the train approached. It appeared they tried to cross the tracks before the train hit them. Based on the direction they were headed, Coleman-Monk believed the two were going to Carter's house.

A memorial service was held Tuesday for Lawson at Temple of Faith Church of God in Christ.
