    Purple Tide finish third at Southern Lakes Conference meet

    WHITEWATER, Wis.—The Beloit Memorial boys swim team capped off a solid first season in the Southern Lakes Conference with a strong outing and third-place finish in its debut at the SLC Championships on Saturday.

    The Purple Tide ended with 303 total points to finish behind second-place Elkhorn (310) and champion Badger co-op, which ended with a whopping 548 points. Burlington (222) took fourth and was followed by Whitewater (184), Prairie St. Catherine’s Aquatics (162), Platteville/Lancaster (137), Jefferson/Cambridge (135), Edgerton/Evansville (104) and Delavan-Darien (63).

    Beloit got the day started with a third-place finish after the 200-yard medley relay team of Aidan Greenlee, Duke Allen, Aidan Donovan and Charlie Ziemba swam a time of 1:44.47. Donovan, Aiden Vanlandingham, Greenlee and Ziemba teamed up to place second in the 400 freestyle relay (3:29.65).

    Donovan was one of two Purple Tide swimmers to win an event after he finished first in the 50 free (22.23). The senior also ended fourth in the 100 butterfly (57.30).

    Greenlee also secured a victory for Beloit with his first-place finish in the 100 backstroke, an event he has dominated all season, with a time of 55.66. The junior ended behind Donovan in the butterfly to take fifth (58.18). Ziemba had a pair of top-five placements after he placed second in the 100 free (50.67) and grabbed fifth in the 200 free (1:58.27).

    Vanlandingham earned 15 points for the Purple Tide in the 500 free, which he placed fourth (5:35.02) in. He also finished eighth in the 200 free (2:00.87). Duke Allen was the final Beloit swimmer to earn a placement in the top five as he ended fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.36) and added an eighth-place finish in the 100 butterfly (1:02.51).

    Senior Sean Goodspeed earned eighth in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.69) and sophomore Fransisco Rebolledo placed ninth in the 200 IM (2:39.43).

    The Purple Tide will next compete in the WIAA Racine Case Sectional on Saturday.
