UNION GROVE, Wis.—Junior Owen West kept his undefeated season rolling along by becoming the first Beloit Memorial wrestler to win a Southern Lakes Conference championship on Saturday.

West (24-0) dominated the SLC, which the Purple Knights joined in all sports this school year, through the dual season and continued to use his scrappy wrestling style to control his opponents.

The 132-pounder pinned Badger’s Matthew Hamholm in 3:43 in the quarterfinals before winning a 7-4 decision over Wilmot’s Layne Gauger to advance to the championship, where he beat Burlington’s Brody Toledo in an 8-4 decision.

Beloit finished eighth in the meet with 57 points as Burlington won the conference with 275 points. Wilmot was second with 191 followed by host Union Grove (153.5), Westosha Central (147.5), Badger (131), Elkhorn (126) and Waterford (106).

Kadler Dahiti (215) earned a top-five spot after winning his fifth-place match with Waterford’s Lucas Reineman, who he pinned in 3:21.

Miguel Martinez (113) finished fourth after advancing to the third-place match after Union Grove’s Braxton Storbeck was disqualified before Martinez had to medically forfeit against Elkhorn’s Ryan Recklies.

Beloit will next wrestle at the Mukwonago Regional on Saturday.

    • ROCK VALLEY JUNIOR VARSITY TOURNAMENT: Wyatt Bennett secured a first-place finish for Beloit Turner in the 138-pound division at the JV tourney on Friday.

Bennett pinned Big Foot/Williams Bay’s Ta-Kai Hubbert in 3:06 and Brodhead/Juda’s Dysel Groebner in just 25 seconds on his way to the championship, where he pinned East Troy’s Rainer Halbmeier in 3:39.

Anh Ha (144) finished 3-2 by winning via a pin and 13-7 decision on his way to fourth place while Jayden Mosley (144) finished fifth for Turner with two pins and a 5-3 decision. Connor Myers (150) also placed fifth with two falls.
