BELOIT—Senior Candis Damste has been dominating tracks all over the Midwest to kick off the Beloit College women track and field team’s indoor season.

Damste’s efforts at the Red Hawk Invite hosted at Ripon College on Saturday earned her Women’s Indoor Track Performer of the Week honors from the Midwest Conference.

A resident of Accra, Ghana, Damste placed second in the 200-meter race by running a time of 26.34 seconds, which is the fastest time in the MWC so far this season.

Damste also ran the opening leg of both the 4x400 and 4x200 relay races as she led the Buccaneers to a first-place finish in both events. The 4x400 winning time of 4:16.61 is the third-fastest time in the MWC and the 4x200 time of 1:47.51 is the second best.

The senior capped off her outstanding Saturday by placing fourth in the 60 meters, which she finished in 8.19 seconds.

The 200 has been a specialty of Damste’s this season as she won it at both the Ripon Alumni Dual and the Karl Schlender Invitational. She also won the 400 at the Spartan Shootout hosted by the University of Dubuque.

The Bucs will next compete in the Roger Hayes Invite hosted by Monmouth College on Saturday.
