WHITEWATER, Wis. — Beloit Memorial graduates Shelvin Garrett II and Kobe Chandler continue strong indoor seasons for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater track and field program.

Garrett won the triple jump at the Midwest ELITE Invitational in Kachel Fieldhouse on Saturday while Chandler was second in the 400 meters.

Garrett won his event with a leap of 15.31 meters, the second-best distance turned in by an NCAA Division III athlete this season. Garrett already had the top effort this season with a 15.41 effort (50-6.75 inches) on Jan. 26.

Chandler took his silver in the 400 with a clocking of 50.48. In the final race of the day, Chandler helped the Warhawks’ 4x400 relay team take fourth in 3:24.61.

Next up for the Warhawks is the Eagle Invitational at UW-La Crosse this Friday.

    • HUSKIES PLAY BALL: Maddy Carlson (South Beloit) and Hannah Bolly (Janesville Parker) both saw action in the pitcher’s circle for the Northern Illinois softball team.

Carlson, a junior transfer from Rock Valley College, has pitched in five games and 15 1-3 innings and allowed 14 hits and eight earned runs. She has seven strikeouts. Her best performance was against Omaha when she allowed no runs and four hits in four innings, striking out four. She has an ERA of 3.65.

Bolly, a freshman, has pitched in three games. She has allowed seven hits and four runs in 4 2-3 innings, fanning three.

    • BELL ADVANCING: Jaden Bell (Beloit Memorial) helped Rockford University’s men’s basketball team erase a 17-point deficit on Saturday afternoon in River Forest, Ill., securing a 69-66 comeback win at Concordia University-Chicago.

The victory clinches a spot in the NACC Tournament for Rockford for the fourth straight season and for the fifth time in the past six years. The Regents are in sole possession of fourth place and only a game out of third with two games remaining. A win at home Wednesday night over Concordia University-Wisconsin would secure a home game in the first round of the NACC Tournament.

Bell finished Saturday’s game with 10 points, including a key 3-pointer that put Rockford up 67-66 with 16 seconds remaining. He also had six rebounds and three steals.
