    WIAA BOYS WRESTLING: Turner's Zack Ries, Brody Berg qualify for state meet

    CAMPBELLSPORT, Wis. — Beloit Turner’s Zack Ries and Brody Berg are both advancing to the WIAA Division 2 State Wrestling Championships at the Kohl Center in Madison this coming weekend.

    Ries captured first place at 144 pounds and Berg took third at 150.

    Ries (26-6) opened with a 16-0 tech fall of Plymouth’s Cole Anderson. In the semifinals, he posted a 4-2 decision over Melvin Finkley of Martin Luther Prep and in the finals, he edged Delavan-Darien’s Jacob Huff, 4-0.

    Berg pinned Conner Sitzberger of Campbellsport in 5:57 in his opening match. In the semifinals, he pinned Lake Country Lutheran’s Josh Vandre in 3:53. He lost 8-2 to Kewaskum’s Kage Weseman in the finals and lost a major decision to Whitewater’s Odair Porras in the second-place match.

    The Trojans’ Carlos Ramirez at 165 (33-16) opened by pinning Waupun’s Kyler Sanders in 4:37. He then lost a 17-2 tech fall to Whitewater’s Sebastian Cuellar and lost a 9-6 decision to Grafton’s Thomas Schumacher.

    Turner’s Brayden Ward (126) and Tony Hamilton (285) lost opening matches.

    Clinton’s D’Angelo Vernon (34-20) advanced by taking third at 138 pounds, pinning Connor Friend of Whitewater in 3:21.

    The Cougars’ Brayden Collins (120) and Logan Hendricks (157) both went 0-2.

    Big Foot/Williams Bay’s Jonah Henningfield (113) finished fourth while Will Wojcik (175) lost in the quarterfinals.

    • WIAA DIVISION 2 WISCONSIN DELLS: Brodhead/Juda advanced both of its sectional qualifiers to state.

    Marcus McIntyre (42-2) won at 138 pounds and Joe Lohmar (42-5) was runnerup at 150.

    McIntyre pinned Layne Fry (Gale-Ett.-Tr/Mel.-Min) in 1:26 in the quarterfinals. He also pinned Cam Spensley of Belmont/Platteville) in 3:51 in the semis and won a 6-4 decision over Mason Mau (Belleville/Monticello/New Glarus) in the finals.

    Lohmar pinned Landon Windsor of (Gale-Ett.-Tr./Mel.-Mni) in 3:32 in the quarterfinals. He won a tight 3-1 decision over Wyatt Nachreiner of River Valley in his semifinal match, but lost an 18-3 tech fall over Danny Heiser of Evansville in the finals. Lohmar won by no contest over Nachreiner in the second-place match.

    • WIAA DIVISION 1: Beloit Memorial’s Owen West (35-1) suffered his first loss of the season and it cost him a chance of advancing to state.

    West opened with a pin in 2:23 of Rylan Heine of Fort Atkinson. He then lost 7-6 to Evan Fahey or Oregon. West pinned Aiden Bell of La Follette in his third-place match, but Fahey was awarded second place because of his earlier win over West.

    Beloit’s Kadler Dahiti (215) lost his opening match.

    • WIAA DIVISION 3: Parkview/Albany advanced three third-place finishers out of the Mineral Point Sectional: Danny Finley (126), Sam Schwengels (190) and Wesley Egan.

    Finley (51-5) won by pin in the quarterfinals, but lost to Alexander Radacvich of New Lisbon in the semifinals 10-5. In the consolation semifinals, Finley decisioned Lancaster’s Jamin Crapp 11-6. He won a 7-3 decision over Colton Tollefson (Fennimore) for third place..

    Schwengels (52-4) opened with a pin in 4:36 of Hillsboro’s Ryan McCoic. He lost in the semis to Wyatt Ahnen (Fennimore) by 16-1 tech fall, but pinned Jackson Duerr of Pittsville in 1:29 to reach a third-place match, which he won 5-2 over Kadin Rynes of Riverdale.

    Egan (52-2) won his quarterfinal match by pin, but lost an 18-2 tech fall to Jackson Shramek of Blair-Taylor. In the semifinals. Evan rebounded to pin Mac Busser of Mineral Point in 3:41 and then pinned Dalton Wolf of Fennimore in 4:42 for third place.

    Parkview/Albany’s Slater Valley (41-9) lost in the quarterfinals at 113.
