GIRLS WRESTLING: Cassioppi, Turner duo headed to state meets

It was a big day on Saturday for Hononegah’s Angelina Cassioppi and Beloit Turner’s Sydney Andrews and Mady Lucero.

Cassioppi (16-1), a 120-pounder, earned a return trip to the IHSA State Championships by finishing first at the Geneseo Sectional.

Andrews at 145 and Lucero at 120 both won sectional titles in the WIAA Division 2 Campbellsport Sectional to qualify for the Wisconsin state championships.

At Geneseo, Cassioppi went 3-0. After a bye in the first round, she posted a 15-4 major decision over Alaina Hollendoner of Lincoln Way West in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, she posted a 19-2 tech fall over Dyani Torres of Kaneland and in the finals, she pinned Grace Laird of Joliet Catholic in 1:52.

Andrews (32-2) pinned Haley Williams of Martin Luther in 1:44 in the semifinals and then pinned Anayiz Castro of Shoreland Lutheran in 2:51 in the finals.

Lucero (31-8) pinned Katie Rojas-Reyes of Whitewater in 2:11 in the semifinals and then posted an 18-6 major decision over Lily Hinz of Kettle Moraine Lutheran in the finals.

Taking fourths for Turner were Camrea Fulk (100), Emily Wyss (132) and Haleigh Winke (165).

Kamya Robison (107) and Aubrey Hollis (126) lost in the quarterfinals.

• WIAA DIVISION 1: At Milton, Beloit Memorial’s Amiyah Clark finished fourth at 132 pounds. Losing quarterfinal matches were Melissa Abarca-Cozme (126) and Janet Arbaca-Cosme (138)

• WIAA DIVISION 3: Parkview/Albany’s Sydney Coyne (25-5) received a bye into the semifinals at 235, where she pinned Emily Heisner of Mineral Point in 2:31. In the finals, she pinned Kaylee Manning of Ithaca/Weston in 1:21.

The Vikings’ Autumn Hill (107) and Ayda Klein (120) lost opening-round matches.
