    Beloit College's Candis Damste shines in MWC Indoor Track Championships

    RIPON, Wis. — Beloit College’s Candis Damste won the 200 and 400 meter dashes and was a member of a first place 4x400 relay team as she captured Female Track Performer of the Meet at the 2024 Midwest Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday.

    Damste, from Accra, Ghana, won the 200 in 26.14 seconds, clocking in with the fastest time in the conference this season. By running a 59.01 in the 400 finals, she became the first MWC female 400 runner to clock a sub-1 minute time this season.

    Finally, she teamed with Sophia Miller, Jaeonie Echols and Alayna Furch to win the 4x400 in 4:04.19 for the fastest time in the MWC this season.

    The 4x200 relay team of Echols, Damste, Darcel Royster and Furch finished in second place in 1:46.13, under a second behind the first-place team (1:45.63).

    In her first meet after joining the team post-basketball, senior Elizabeth Kalk placed second in the high jump, hitting 1.60 meters.

    For the second straight meet, Naomee Casey broke the school record in the pole vault. She broke her previous mark of 3.02 meters with a vault of 3.04 meters for fourth place.

    On the men’s side, Beloit’s 4x400 relay team of Alexandre Atou, Daniel DeGeorge, Izzy Zewdie and Nate Otis was third in 3:28.00.

    Josh Yearby and Atou also had fourth place finishes, Yearby in the 60 (6.98) and Atou in the 400 (51.31).

    The Bucs’ Kevon Mills was second in the high jump with a 1.86-meter mark.

    The Beloit team travels to Ripon this coming weekend for the Last Chance Meet.
