AUBURNDALE, Fla. — Beloit College’s baseball team broke out the bats in a big way Thursday to give starting pitcher Aiden Phipps more support than he needed.

While Phipps (2-1) allowed only three hits and one earned run over seven innings of work, the Buccaneers collected 15 hits — eight for extra bases — in an 11-1 victory over Greenville University (4-10) in eight innings.

Beloit improved to 5-3 overall and 4-2 in the RussMatt Invitational.

The Bucs wasted no time taking charge, scoring three runs in the first inning. Jack Alport singled and scored on a triple by Matt O’Leary. A groundout by Connor Vogel then scored O’Leary. After Brett Kiger singled, Evan Zenger ripped a double down the right field line to score him.

Beloit went back to work in the third inning with two outs. Zenger doubled and Myles Souza drove him in with a single. Elijah Love then belted an RBI double down the left field line for a 5-0 lead.

Greenville broke up Phipps’ shutout in the fourth inning, but the Bucs tacked on three runs in the fifth inning. Kiger opened the inning with a walk and scored on a triple by Zenger. Souza followed with an RBI single and Alport later added a sacrifice fly for an 8-1 lead.

The Bucs ended the game in the eighth inning by the 10-run rule. Vogel led off with a double and scored on Zenger’s one-out single. Souza singled and Love was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Riley Ponio was also hit by a pitch, forcing in the 11th run and ending the contest.

Zenger had a monster game, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, three runs scored and three RBIs. Souza was 3xfor-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Alport, O’Leary and Vogel also had two hits apiece.

    • UP NEXT: The Bucs will play a double-header with Central College starting at 8:30 a.m. CT Friday and then wrap up their Florida trip by facing North Park at 11 a.m. CT Saturday.
