    Beloit College baseball team finishes 6-3 on Florida trip

    AUBURNDALE, Fla. — Beloit College’s Buccaneers swept a double-header against Central College (Pella, Iowa), 11-2 and 7-2 on Friday, but finished off its Florida trip with a 12-6 loss to North Park on Sunday.

    The Bucs (7-4) went 6-3 on the trip.

    In game one on Friday, Beloit scored in the second inning when Miles Souza and Jacopo Tamburni hit back-to-back doubles.

    The Dutch tied it in the top of the third, but the Bucs answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Connor Vogel belted a one-out double and Brett Kiger followed with his third home run of the spring for a 3-1 lead. Evan Zenger walked and scored on a triple by Souza. A passed ball brought Souza home.

    Kiger went back to work in the fifth with a leadoff triple. Souza hit an RBI single.

    Central cut it to 6-2, but Beloit put it away with five runs in the sixth. Jack Alport led off with a double and Matt O’Leary singled. Vogel doubled to score them both. Kiger then belted his second home of the game to make it 10-2. Souza singled and RJ Pouzar walked. Brody Bremer pinch-ran for Souza and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

    Starter Kaiya Nishino went 5 innings, allowing five hits and one run. Reliever Tommy Murray allowed one run in one inning and Joshua Stern pitched a scoreless seventh.

    In the nightcap, Beloit broke up a scoreless tie with three runs in the fourth. Kiger walked, Souza singled and both scored on Tamburini’s triple.

    Beloit’s O’Leary hit a solo home run. Zenger had an RBI double and Alport an RBI single to make it 6-2. Souza finished 2-for-4 to lead a nine-hit attack.

    Eamon Burke (1-1) had his best start of the spring, allowing only three hits and an unearned run in four innings. Micah Wilk pitched a scoreless inning and Harvey Pena allowed one run in two innings of work.

    Saturday, North Park (10-6) outhit the Bucs 19-13 to win a slugfest. Alport, Kiger and Nolan Tomsyck all collected three hits and Kiger smacked his fifth home run in just 11 games.

    Starter Ben Schweit (1-1) took the loss, allowing nine hits and five runs (three earned) in two innings. Caleb Lasher allowed three hits and two runs in three innings, Wilk allowed six hits and four runs in two innings and Tommy Murray allowed one hit and one run in one inning.

    The Bucs host Cornell this Saturday for a double-header starting at noon at ABC Supply Stadium.
