KENOSHA, Wis.—The Beloit College softball team just simply couldn’t get its bats going as it fell 7-1, 6-1 in a sweep at the hands of Carthage College in a doubleheader on Sunday.

Lylah Murrah walked and later scored on a single by North Boone grad Kaylee Witte to put the Buccaneers up 1-0 in the top of the first inning of the first game.

But the Firebirds erased the lead by plating three runs in the bottom half of the frame off Witte. She also allowed a run in the second and another in the fourth, her final inning of work. Witte allowed five runs (three earned) on seven hits with a strikeout.

Reliever Samantha Friedrichsohn allowed two runs in the fifth. The sophomore threw two innings and allowed two runs on two hits and one walk.

The Bucs managed only three hits. Witte went 2-for-3 while Stella Lutes added a single.

In game two, Beloit committed four errors and allowed 10 hits in the tough loss.

Briana Arteaga knocked in the Bucs’ lone run on a single in the fifth while Witte and Allison Olson, who doubled, rounded out the hitting.

Friedrichson, Helena Harrison and Witte all threw two innings for the Bucs. Witte allowed just one hit over the final two frames while Friedrichson started and allowed two runs (one earned) one two hits. Harrison allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits.
