    PREP ROUNDUP: Beloit Memorial girls win soccer opener

    BELOIT — Beloit Memorial’s girls soccer team got two goals apiece from Aalayjah Fleming and Jillian Traver and another by Adilenne Salazar in a 5-0 non-conference victory over the Clinton-Beloit Turner co-op team at Jacobson Field on Thursday.

    The Purple Knights jumped out to a 3-0 lead by halftime and tacked on two more second-half goals.

    Beloit’s next action will be another non-conference matchup against Madison La Follette at 6:30 p.m. April 3 at Jacobson Field.

    • BASEBALL: MONTICELLO/ALBANY 11, PARKVIEW 6: Christian Hobson collected four hits in four at-bats, but the visiting Vikings fell at Monticello High School as they were outhit 13-10.

    Hobson hit singles in the first, fourth, fifth and sixth innings. The Vikings’ best inning was the fifth when they scored six runs on five hits, but that only cut the deficit to 9-6 and the hosts tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning.

    Gehrig Grenawalt started on the mound for Parkview and allowed nine hits and nine runs over three innings, striking out one and walking seventh. He was 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI.

    • MARATHON 7, CLINTON 3: The host Cougars fell behind 4-0 after one inning and 7-0 heading to the bottom of the sixth. They rallied for three runs in their final two at-bats, but it wasn’t enough.

    Clinton was held to three singles, by Collin Gill, Logan Thill and Gavin Westling. Gill and Wesling both knocked in runs.

    Thill took the loss, allowing four hits and four runs in four innings while walking four and striking out five. Tim Arnold pitched three innings, allowing three unearned runs with one walk and two strikeouts.

    • SOFTBALL: BELOIT TURNER 11, EAST TROY 8: The game was moved from East Troy’s unplayable diamond to the Stateline Youth Sports Center turf in Beloit and the Trojans took advantage.

    Sammi Schleis drove in five runs on three hits to lead the Trojans. She hit an inside the park home run in the fifth inning that scored two.

    The Trojans scored six times in the sixth inning to build a 10-2 lead. Autumn Meris belted a two-run homer and Maddy Hoenig had a two-run double to highlight the big inning.

    Maddyn Saunders collected the victory in the pitcher’s circle. She allowed nine hits and seven runs (five earned) in a complete-game effort. She walked five and struck out seven.

    Schleis was 3-for-4 and Saunders and Caccee Carl each had two hits to lead Turner’s 12-hit attack.

    • SYCAMORE 6, NORTH BOONE 4: Down six runs in the sixth inning, the host Vikings nearly clawed all the way back in the non-conference game.

    The Vikings got a sacrifice fly from Danielle Goodman in the sixth and teammate Olivia Johnson cracked a three-run home run to center field.

    Cami Carter took the loss. She pitched a complete game with five of the runs earned on 11 hits. She walked one and struck out six.

    Carter, Johnson, Laurek Stefek and Marlee Alderman each had a hit for the Vikings, who committed three errors.
