TWIN LAKES, Wis. — Beloit Memorial boys golf coach Tod Clarey said that senior Max Allen put the Southern Lakes Conference on notice with his stellar opening performance at a meet hosted at Twin Lakes Country Club on Wednesday.

Allen shot an 81 to place fifth at the event, which consisted of the other seven members of the SLC. The Purple Knights are competing in the new conference after all sports moved from the Big Eight this school year.

Allen’s stellar start to the season was highlighted by a pair of chip-ins, one of which was for an eagle 3 on a par 5. He competed against 36 other golfers.

Westosha Central’s Matthew Martin shot a 76 to place first and finish two shots ahead of Waterford’s Robbie Meyers.

The Wolverines placed first as a team with a score of 327 while the Falcons were in second with a 335. Beloit did not compete as a team.

    • MONONA GROVE INVITE: The Allen brothers celebrated National Siblings Day, which is held every April 10th, a day late as the duo recorded a great performance at Oaks Golf Course in Cottage Grove on Thursday.

Max Allen built off his stellar opening performance with a steady 7 over par 78 to finish in a tie for 32nd out of 120 golfers. Marcus Allen, a sophomore, shot an 82 and hit back-to-back birdies in his round to finish in a tie for 62nd.

The Purple Knights did not compete as a team in the event, which featured 23 teams from around Wisconsin.

DeForest’s Lincoln Hottmann won the invite by shooting a 65 and helped his team place first with an overall score of 284. Milton was second (296), and former Big Eight foes Janesville Craig placed fifth (302).
