    Beloit College softball sweeps Knox College

    GALESBURG, Ill.—The Beloit College softball team got their first Midwest Conference win of the season in dominating fashion before quickly following it up with its second victory as it swept Knox College on Sunday.

    The Buccaneers made quick work of the Prairie Fire in the first game as they poured on a whopping 11 runs in the fourth inning en route to a 15-0 shutout that was shortened to five innings.

    Siddalee Meyers had an RBI triple and a pair of one-run singles while Briana Arteaga added an RBI double and Rachel Overocker a two-run single. Allison Olson smacked a three-run homer in the big fourth frame.

    Kaylee Witte, Lylah Murrah, who doubled, Stella Lutes and Arteaga all had two hits in the 14-hit outing.

    Witte earned the win after throwing all five innings and allowing just three hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

    The Bucs (5-21, 2-6) continued their hot-hitting ways in the nightcap, which they won 12-3 in six innings.

    Lutes went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer in the second and a two-run single in the seven-run sixth. Witte crushed a two-run bomb in the fifth while Overocker and Angela Donath added one-run singles in the next frame. Meyers had a pair of RBI while Arteaga, Donath and Sydney Harbison all had two hits.

    Knox (2-19, 0-4) committed four errors and was outhit 13-8.

    Murrah got the win in two innings of work as she allowed two runs on two hits and three walks. Witte allowed just two hits in three frames while Harrison allowed one earned run on four hits in one inning.

    The Bucs were swept in a doubleheader at Illinois College on Saturday.

    The Lady Blues won 3-0 in the first game. Beloit managed just two hits, a single by Isabel Johnson and a double by Olson.

    Witte allowed three runs (two earned) in six innings with three walks and five hits.

    Johnson smacked a one-run double in the nightcap, but IC (11-18, 6-2) got its bats hot early with a six-run second on its way to an 8-1 win.

    Johnson had three of Beloit’s six hits while Overocker had two. Harrison took the loss after allowing six runs (five earned) on four hits in 1 1-3 innings. Witte struck out two and allowed one earned run on three hits in three innings.
