    PREP BASEBALL: Turner, Hononegah post conference victories

    BELOIT — Visiting Clinton scored first, but the Beloit Turner Trojans answered quickly with a three-run second inning and went on to post an 8-3 victory in Rock Valley Conference baseball on Wednesday.

    The game at the Stateline Youth Sports Complex was a makeup from a Tuesday rainout. The teams are scheduled to square off in Clinton on Thursday.

    The Cougars’ Logan Hendricks blasted a solo home run off Turner starter Andy Buckley in the first inning, but the right-hander was given a quick reprieve when his teammates put up three runs in the second. Cesar Alfaro knocked in one run with a fielder’s choice and Brody Berg drove in two with a double.

    Turner tacked on a run in the fourth inning. Jayden Piccione’s single knocked in Brayden Ward, who had reached on an error.

    Clinton picked up a run off Buckley in the fifth, but Turner struck for four in the bottom of the inning for a commanding 8-2 lead. The big hits were a two-run homer by Alfaro, an RBI double by Ethan Halon and an RBI single by Noah Pfundheller.

    Alfaro was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Halon was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI and Fernando Tillery was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

    Winning pitcher Buckley allowed seven hits and two runs over six innings, striking out seven and walking one. Alfaro pitched the seventh, allowing one hit and one run.

    Tim Arnold took the loss, allowing eight hits and eight runs (four earned) in 4 2-3 innings. He fanned six. Gavin Wesling came on in relief and pitched 1 1-3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts.

    Hendricks and Collin Gill each had two hits for the Cougars.

    HONONEGAH 24, ROCKFORD EAST 0: The E-Rabs had no answer against the host Indians in Rockton as they allowed 17 hits in just three innings at Weber Field. The NIC-10 game was called after East batted in the fourth due to the mercy rule.

    Easton Stewart started on the mound for the Indians and was credited with a no-hitter, albeit a short one, allowing zero hits and runs over four innings. He struck out six and walked none.

    Hononegah had six batters with multiple hits. Drake Broege had a big day, going 2-for-2 with a double, a three-run homer, three runs scored and five RBIs.

    Broege’s blast occurred in the first inning when the Indians plated 15 runs.

    Bryce Ewing was 3-for-3 with five RBIs for Hononegah and Zander Koch, Austin Dresser, Landen Seymour and Evan Sayles all had two hits.

    • BRODHEAD/JUDA 4, BIG FOOT 0: Kohen Sawle worked around five hits and three walks to throw seven scoreless innings and strike out six while the Cardinals used a three-run fourth to help take down the hosting Chiefs on Wednesday.

    Clayton Eliott put Brodhead/Juda (3-3, 2-0) up 1-0 in the third with his RBI single while one-run singles from Evan Senobe and David Masloske in the fourth, combined with Ryan Searls bringing a runner home on a double play, accounted for all the scoring.

    Brady Malkow had two of the Cardinals’ seven hits while Big Foot (3-4, 1-4) had five different players smack five singles.

    Connor Weeks started for the Chiefs and allowed four earned runs on seven hits and four walks with seven strikeouts. Skylar Jacobs threw a clean seventh.
