BELOIT — The Beloit College softball team seems to finally be finding its bats as it followed up a doubleheader sweep at Alverno College on Tuesday by splitting a twinbill with Carroll University at the Strong Stadium Complex on Wednesday.

The Buccaneers have scored 68 total runs while winning five of its past eight games and have improved to 8-24 overall with this week’s strong non-conference play. Beloit is 2-8 in the Midwest Conference.

On Wednesday, the Bucs rode the strong pitching of North Boone graduate Kaylee Witte to a 2-1 win in the opener over the Pioneers. The sophomore allowed just one earned run on six hits with a strikeout.

Beloit was outhit 6-4 but Angela Donath drew a bases-loaded walk in the third and Witte broke a one-all tie in the sixth when she blasted a single to center field to score Donath, who had been hit by a pitch.

Allison Olson had two hits while Parkview graduate Siddalee Meyers added a single.

In game two, Stella Lutes blasted a three-run homer in the fifth to cut Carroll’s lead to 7-4 before the Pioneers (10-21) scored a pair of insurance runs in the sixth to win 9-5.

Rachel Overocker went 1-for-3 with an RBI single and sacrifice fly while Briana Arteaga finished with three hits. Witte and Olson each added two.

Witte threw 3 2-3 innings of relief for Beloit and allowed three earned runs on three hits and two walks after Helena Harrison started and went 3 1-3 innings with five hits and six runs (three earned).

In Tuesday’s twinbill in Milwaukee, the Bucs won an 11-10 slugfest with the Inferno in game one before coming out on top 9-5 in the nightcap.

In the first game, Beloit jumped out to an 11-4 and fended off a furious comeback from Alverno (5-23), which scored four runs in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Meyers and Overocker led the Bucs’ 14-hit parade with four apiece. Donath recorded three hits while Witte and Beloit Turner graduate Paloma Reyes each had two.

    Overocker hit a two-run double as a part of a four-run fourth, Jocelyn Jordan smacked a two-run double in a four-run fifth and Olson hit a two-run double in a three-run sixth.

Witte went five innings and allowed five earned runs (seven total) on five hits with a pair of strikeouts while Samantha Friedrichsohn threw the final two frames and allowed an earned run (three total) on four hits.

Beloit jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning of game two as Overocker blasted a two-run double, which Lutes followed up with a two-run single. Jordan had an RBI single in the second and, after Alverno cut it to 5-4, a four-run fifth highlighted by Donath’s two-run single kept the Bucs ahead for good.

Donath went 3-for-4 while Overocker finished with two RBI after a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Harrison went six innings and allowed one earned run on seven hits.

The Bucs will be back in action on Saturday when they host MWC opponent Lake Forest College for a doubleheader. Game one begins at 1 p.m.
