BELOIT — The Beloit Sky Carp spotted the visiting Quad Cities River Bandits a run in the second inning, but rallied to post a 5-1 Midwest League victory Thursday night at ABC Supply Stadium.

Home runs by Cameron Barstad and Carlos Santiago helped the Sky Carp take a 2-1 lead in their six-game series.

The River Bandits scored off Beloit starting pitcher Cade Gibson (1-1) in the second when Dustin Dickerson walked, stole second and moved to third on a throwing error by catcher Barstad. An out later, Justin Johnson lined to right for an RBI single and a 1-0 lead.

Quad Cities threatened in the third inning, too, loading the bases with one out, but this time Dickerson grounded into a double play started by shortstop Johnny Olmstead that ended the inning.

Quad Cities starting pitcher Ryan Ramsey (0-1) walked Torin Montgomery to open Beloit’s fifth inning and Barstad made up for his earlier throwing error by launching his second home run of the season for a 2-1 lead.

Reliever Steven Zobac replaced Ramsey to start the sixth inning and Jake Thompson greeted him with a single. An out later, Jake DeLeo singled to move him to second. Santiago struck out, but Montbomery singled to center to score Thompson to make it 3-1 Beloit.

The Sky Carp brought on Ignacio Feliz to relieve Gibson to open the seventh inning. Johnson belted a one-out single and when Deivis Nadal was called out on strikes, Johnson was caught stealing on a throw from Barstad to Olmstead for an inning-ending double play.

Beloit tacked on some insurance in the eighth inning. Josh Zamora reached on a one-out throwing error by shortstop Jack Pineda and an out later Santiago belted a home run to right field, his third of the season. That blast gave Beloit a 5-1 cushion.

The Sky Carp brought in Josh White to pitch the ninth inning and the game couldn’t end without a little drama. White walked Kale Emshoff, but struck out Jared Dickey as Emshoff stole second. Dustin Dickerson followed with a walk, but Pineda fanned for the second out.

Johnson then walked to load the bases and bring the tying run to the plate. White got out of it, however, as Nadal grounded out to second baseman Zamora.

Gibson picked up the win, allowing four hits and one unearned run in six innings. He walked three and struck out five. Feliz had three strikeouts in his two innings and White two in the ninth to give Sky Carp pitchers 10 for the game.
