BELOIT—While the soggy field was perfect for a Sky Carp flying by to stop at and take a rest, it wasn’t so ideal for the Beloit Sky Carp baseball team to play a game on.

Tuesday’s series opener between the Sky Carp and the Peoria Chiefs was postponed until Wednesday after torrential downpours created unplayable conditions at ABC Supply Stadium.

The makeup will be a part of a doubleheader with Wednesday’s 11:10 a.m. matinee still planned as scheduled. A slew of students from schools around the area will be at the ballpark for education day. The nightcap will follow shortly after with the two games each going seven innings due to Minor League Baseball procedures.

Miami Marlins’ 2023 fourth-round pick Emmett Olson will start the first game for the Sky Carp. The lefty made his Beloit debut this past Wednesday after being promoted from Single-A Jupiter and allowed just two hits and two walks in 5 2-3 scoreless innings. He has yet to allow a run in 21 2-3 innings pitched this season.

    • THE EARLY BRAIN WALK: The Sky Carp and Stateline Community Foundation announced on Wednesday that they are teaming up to provide families a chance to combine fun and learning at ABC Supply Stadium.

The partners introduced the Early Brain Walk, a learning trail that weaves all over the ballpark and includes different joyous and educational ways to engage the youth as they make their way around the stadium.

Sky Carp owners Quint and Rishy Studer started the Studer Community Institute in Pensacola, Florida, where the Double-A Blue Wahoos play, with a similar goal in mind and it has made significant progress in the area.

Early brain development has long been important to the two, and their motto “Build a Brain, Build A Life, Build A Community” is a prime example of why they believe early brain development is so crucial.

Quint and Rishy Studer made a donation of $500,000 to the Stateline Community Foundation in 2023 to go towards early brain development.

Jessica Austin, Director of Early Brain Development at the Stateline Community Foundation, said her organization is excited to be involved with the initiative.

“It’s an honor to extend our reach to this community hub,” Austin said.

“Integrating learning seamlessly into the Sky Carp game day experience reflects our commitment to fostering early brain development at every opportunity. Let’s walk, learn, and cheer together!”

The main goal of the foundation is to ensure that every child born in Rock County will be ready to learn when they reach kindergarten, and Austin added that the Early Brain Walk will be a great way to help make that happen.

“When proposed with the idea, I was excited to create ABC Supply Stadium to be an even bigger early learning stop for families,” Austin said. “I hope families will use these resources to connect with their young ones and engage in learning while enjoying the stadium’s environment.

“It reinforces the notion that early learning can occur anywhere, even amidst the excitement of a Sky Carp game.”
