BELOIT — Mike Nora went the distance on the mound for Beloit Memorial’s baseball team Saturday and was the hard-luck loser against Lake Geneva Badger.

Despite allowing only five hits over seven innings, Nora took the 4-2 loss at Pohlman Field.

Two of those hits and one of Nora’s five walks occurred in the first inning when Badger scored two runs.

“Mike Nora settled in after that and allowed only three hits through the rest of the game,” Beloit head coach Steve Johnson said. “Mike was struggling early getting his off-speed pitches across the plate, but once he started throwing his heat, Badger had trouble making contact.”

Badger did manage a third run in the top of the third inning.

Johnson said Nora had some solid defense behind him.

“With the speed we have in our outfield with Owen West, Tayvon Cates and Max Allen, not many fly balls are going to touch the ground,” the coach said. “Owen had a full layout diving catch on a sinking line drive to end a late inning and give us another chance. Not many center fielders are coming up with that catch, but it has become routine with Owen.”

The Purple Knights cut it to 3-2 in the bottom of the third inning. With two outs, Owen West was hit by a pitch by Badger starter Sam Polyock. Tayvan Cates singled to center, sending Wells to third and the Knight then stole home.

Brooks Mitchell added a long RBI double into the left center field gap.

That was as close as Beloit would get. Badger tacked on a run in the fourth and neither team scored over the final three innings.

    • BRODHEAD/JUDA 9-3, Monroe 4-7: Gabe Bockhop was 4-for-4 with two singles, a double and a triple to lead the Cardinals to a 9-4 win, but the Cheesemakers took the second game of the twinbill.

In the first game, Sam Searls went five innings and allowed four hits and four runs (one earned) with three strikeouts. The Cardinals trailed 4-3, but then took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Clayton Elliott pitched two scoreless innings to keep the Cardinals in front. He also was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs.

In the nightcap, the Cards only trailed 4-3 after scoring in the top of the fifth, but Monroe tallied a run in the bottom of the inning and two more in the sixth.

Starting pitcher Kohen Sawle was charged with five runs in five innings, but only two were earned and both of the runs charged to reliever Elliott were unearned.

    • VERONA 12, BELOIT TURNER 1: The Trojans were outhit 10-3 in the non-conference loss on Friday, with the only hits singles by Brody Berg, Zach Ries and Nolan Pfundheller.

The Wildcats scored seven times in the second inning. Jack DeTienne led Verona, going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs.

Carston Jacobson took the loss for Turner, allowing seven hits and nine runs (five earned) in 1 1-3 innings.

    • HONONEGAH 12, BELVIDERE NORTH 0: Hononegah belted out 11 hits in four innings, including home runs by Cameron Nelson and Drake Broege, and Nolan Mabie tossed a two-hit shutout in the five-inning shortened game. He struck out seven.

Austin Dresser led the Indians’ attack, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Landen Seymour was 2-for-2 with two runs scored.
