    PREP TRACK: Beloit Memorial's Jaslyn Gama off to state meet after taking third in 400

    BEAVER DAM, Wis. — Beloit Memorial track and field’s Jaslyn Gama has been wrapping up her senior season by putting up some great times again and again in her races.

    The senior has run herself all the way into the WIAA Division 1 State Track and Field Championships after she finished third at the 400-meter dash in Thursday’s sectional meet in Beaver Dam.

    Gama finished in 1:01.66 behind the Janesville Parker duo of Harper Brandenburg (59.39) and Mya Barnes (59.97). The result came after she placed third in the Stoughton regional with a PR of 1:01.09. She also was eighth in the 300 hurdles (52.18).

    Junior Jaedyn Coleman PR’d in the discus by three feet but it wasn’t enough as his distance of 151-feet, six-inches put him fifth place. He was seventh in the shot put (45-5).

    The girls’ 4x100 relay of Naima Brooks, Kori Burnett, Essence Coleman and Antonia Mance finished in seventh (53.10).

    Slinger won as a team on the girls’ side with 92 points while Oconomowoc’s boys were first with 91.50.

    The state meet will be held on Friday-Saturday, May 31-June 1 at UW-La Crosse.

    • WIAA DIVISION 2 BIG FOOT SECTIONAL: In Walworth, the Cougars’ Owen Douglas broke out the broom as he swept the throwing events by qualifying for the state meet in both the shot put and the discus.

    Douglas finished second in the shot put with a throw of 50-feet, 9-inches while his throw of 135-feet, 3-inches placed him third in the discus.

    Big Foot’s Kaden Rambatt secured yet another first-place finish and will make his fourth-straight appearance at the state meet after he won the pole vault with a PR height of 16-feet, 3-inches.

    The Chiefs’ girls will also send their 4x100 relay of Elliana Pape, Allie Stankevitz, Lydia Farence and Ava Schoonover to the state championships after they placed fourth (50.83).

    Clinton suffered from a volley of near misses as the girls’ 4x800 relay of Ella Logterman, Parker Kutz, Ava Mueller and Paige Damman was fifth( 10:05.17). Damman was also fifth in both the 3200 (12:18.46) and in the 1600 (5:35.02) while Blaine Brown was fifth in the 300 hurdles (42.65).

    New Berlin West's girls were first in team scoring with 94.50 points while the Big Foot finished 15h (18.50) and the Cougars were 18th (13).

    Lakeside Lutheran's boys won with a whopping 129 points. Big Foot was 13th (20.50) and Clinton was 15th (19).

    • WIAA DIVISION 2 PORTAGE SECTIONAL: It was a good day to be a Terrell as Beloit Turner's Elijah Terrell finished second in the triple jump and fourth in the 200 to qualify for state in two events while Navana Terrell advanced with her second place in the shot put.

    Elijah Terrell ran a 22.34 in the 200 and leaped a distance of 44-feet, 9.5-inches in the triple jump. His time of 11.21 was sixth in the 100 and he was sixth in the long jump (20-7).

    Navana Terrell threw the shot put 38-feet, 1.5-inches. Cherish Smith took fifth and PR’d in the 200 (26.65) to just miss out on advancing to state.

    Stella Arn was a two-time champion with wins in the 100- and 200-meter dashes (12.27 seconds and 25.44). She was also one of four on the Cardinals' 400-meter relay team that finished second in Portage in 50.18 to punch a state ticket.

    Also on that relay was Addison Yates, who will compete at state in four events total. She was the sectional high jump champion (5 feet, 4 inches) and was also a top-four finisher in the long jump (16-11.5) and 100 hurdles (15.51).

    Kalena Riemer won the 800-meter run for Brodhead/Juda in 2:19.73 and also took third in a speedy 400 field in a time of 58.61 to qualify for state in those two events. Onni Williams took fourth in shot put (37-10.75) and will participate at state in that event. The other state relay runners for the Cardinals were Brenley Jones and Elliana Shank.

    Brodhead/Juda's boys team also had a pair of state qualifications with its third-place 400 relay team of Grayson Arn, Cohen Henze, Eric Woodward and Gunner Boegli (43.62). Gavin Pinnow took third in the high jump (6-2) to advance in that event.

    The Cardinals won the girls' team title with 75 points with Kettle Moraine Lutheran in second at 60. Beloit Turner scored 14 points to place 18th.

    On the boys' side, McFarland edged Lodi for the team title 76.33-73.83. Turner tied for 13th with 19 points while Brodhead/Juda was 17th with 17 points.

    • WIAA DIVISION 3 HORICON SECTIONAL: Parkview senior Karson Redman advanced in two events while the girls’ team are sending on one athlete from the track and another from the field.

    Redman was third in the 400 (52.13) and fourth in the long jump (20-7), and he recorded a PR in both of those events.

    Loralei Arnold continued her stellar freshman year as she finished first in the pole vault (10-3) and Sahara Boers-Augustine ended third in the 400 (1:01.63).

    Deerfield's girls won the team title with 72 points while Parkview was tied for eighth with 29. On the boys' side, Cedar Grove-Belgium took first (47) and Parkview was 20th (16).
