UW-Whitewater’s Shelvin Garrett II earned his overall sixth NCAA Division III All-American honor on Saturday as he claimed second in the triple jump at the 2024 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Garrett, the 2024 Indoor triple crown national champion, claimed silver at the Outdoor Nationals for the second consecutive season.

The Beloit Memorial High School graduate advanced through the first round of jumps with a leap of 15.00 meters (49-feet, 2.5 inches). He made the best of his final jump, soaring 15.38 meters (50-5.5) to not only secure the national runner-up finish, but post a career best. The jump ranks second in the UW-W program record book.

Garrett is now a three-time triple jump All-American Outdoors and six-time honoree overall. He has never finished below fifth in six combined Indoor and Outdoor national championship appearances.

As a team, UW-W tied for sixth while the Warhawks women were 11th.

The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference had four league institutions finish among the top six in the men’s standings and three in the women’s top 11.

    • BUCS’ DAMTSE 9TH: Beloit College senior Candis Damtse finished ninth in the 400 meters, one spot out of finals qualification, at the NCAA D-III Nationals.

Damtse, from Accra, Ghana, broke her PR and the school record she set a week ago. She finished in 55.97 seconds, .06 seconds behind the eighth-place finisher.

Damtse had won Female Track Performer of the Year awards in the MWC Indoor and Outdoor championship. She was named the Ruth S. Peterson Award winner as Beloit’s top senior female athlete. She also earned a Blanket Award, the highest honor bestowed to a Beloit athlete.
