Beloit Memorial falls to Badger in WIAA Division 1 regional 17-2

Beloit Memorial’s baseball team buried itself in the first inning Tuesday, allowing 11 runs, on its way to a 17-2 WIAA Division 1 regional loss to host Lake Geneva Badger.

The game was stopped after Beloit batted in the fifth due to the mercy rule.

Dylan Foss started on the mound for Beloit and retired two batters, allowing five hits and 11 runs (one earned). He walked four.

The Purple Knights nearly escaped the first inning salvo. They had allowed one run and had two outs when a dropped fly ball in center allowed another run to score and kept the inning alive. An infield error allowed another run to come home. The Badgers continued to pour on the runs from there, including a grand slam home run by Gavin Stewart.

Mike Nora came on and pitched the next 1 1-3 innings, allowing four hits and five runs (four earned). Mitch Stuessy pitched the final two innings, allowing two hits and one run while striking out three.

Beloit averted a shutout in the second inning. Foss and Stuessy hit back-to-back one-out singles. Tayvon Cates collected an infield single to load the bases. A balk by Stewart then allowed Foss to score, but he got out of the inning with a strikeout and a successful pickoff play at second base.

Badger scored five times in the second inning and one more in the third, finishing with 11 hits and eight bases on balls.

Beloit added a third-inning run, finishing with five hits. With two outs in the third, Brooks Mitchell doubled to left and moved to third on a single by Ruddy Ramirez. Mitchell then stole home prior to Nora striking out.

Earlier in May, the Knights lost to Badger 13-1 and 4-2. The Knights finished the season 2-16, dropping their final 11 games.
