BELOIT—The Beloit Sky Carp’s pitching staff was strong but Dayton Dragons’ starter Johnathan Harmon was flat-out dominant.

Harmon only allowed two baserunners through the first four innings, both off of a pair of errors, and finished going 6 2-3 innings with three hits, no walks and five strikeouts to help Dayton beat Beloit 1-0.

The Sky Carp now trail 3-0 in the six-game series.

Torin Montgomery smacked a one-out single to right field for the first Sky Carp hit of the evening in the fifth and Jake DeLeo followed with a single of his own but Harmon coaxed Osiris Johnson into a double play.

Cameron Barstad’s ground-rule double in the sixth chased Harmon and Arij Fransen walked Montgomery and allowed a DeLeo single to load the bases before getting a groundout.

Fransen threw a hitless eighth and persevered the win in the ninth by inducing Johnny Olmstead to ground out and punching out both Barstad and Montgomery.

Karson Milbrandt was strong in his start as he didn’t allow any runs while working around three hits and three walks with four strikeouts in four innings.

Beloit’s Cade Gibson entered the game in the fifth, making his first relief appearance since Aug. 25 of last season, and issued a walk to Yan Contreas and hit Jay Allen II to start. Hector Rodriguez’s groundout to second moved the runners over and an RBI groundout by Sal Stewart to short made it 1-0.

Gibson punched out Cam Collier to end the fifth and worked around two singles in the sixth to finish with four strikeouts and two hits in two innings. Josh Ekness threw a hitless seventh and eighth while Josh White came on to throw a scoreless ninth.

The Sky Carp will return to ABC Supply Stadium on Friday and Saturday at 6:35 p.m. before finishing up on Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
