BELOIT — Johnny Olmstead and Mark Coley II each blasted home runs in the nightcap to help the Beloit Sky Carp split a twinbill with the Lake County Captains on Thursday at ABC Supply Stadium.

The Captains shut the Sky Carp out 4-0 in the first game before Beloit bounced back to win game two 8-5. Beloit holds a 2-1 series lead in the six-game homestand.

Both games, one of which was a makeup for Tuesday night’s rainout, went seven innings per Minor League Baseball rules.

Coley led off the bottom of the first with a home run to right field off Lake County starter Juan Zapata. Olmstead singled before Josh Zamora and Torin Montgomery walked to load the bases.A passed ball scored Olmstead and two strikeouts later, Carlos Santiago smacked a two-run double to right.

Lake County got a run back off starter Emmett Olson in the second with Angel Zarate’s sacrifice fly and made it 4-3 with Jonah Advincula’s RBI single and Tyreese Turner’s bases-loaded walk in the third.

Montgomery and Jake DeLeo each drew a one-out walk and Cameron Barstad upped it to 5-3 with his single to center in the bottom half of the frame.

Andrew Fernandez walked to start the bottom of the fourth and Coley singled before Olmstead blasted a three-run homer to left field.

Johnny Tincher singled off reliever Kyle Crigger, who had thrown a scoreless fourth, to start the fifth and Advincula blasted a two-rum homer to cut into Beloit’s lead 8-5.

But Crigger got a strikeout and a groundout to prevent any more damage. Xavier Meachem worked around a one-out double in the sixth and a two-out walk in the seventh to earn his second save of the season while striking out four.

Olson threw three innings and allowed three earned runs on four hits and three walks with two strikeouts.

Jake Miller and Steve Hajjar combined for three scoreless innings out of the bullpen for the Captains.

Coley and Olmstead each led Beloit with two hits while Advincula had two for Lake County.

Karson Milbrandt started game one for Beloit and stranded two baserunners in the first inning and worked around a one-out walk in the second but couldn’t keep it scoreless in the third as Angel Genao singled, moved to second an out later on a wild pitch and scored on Jorge Burgos’ two-out double into right field.

Burgos scored when Jake Fox singled into right in the next at-bat.

Milbrandt stranded two runners in the fourth but left in the fifth after Cooper Ingle singled and Burgos walked to start the frame. Cade Gibson entered and Burgos was out at second when Fox reached on a fielder’s choice. Fox stole second and both came home when Maick Collado’s lasered a hit that ricochet off shortstop Olmstead’s glove and into the outfield to make it 4-0.

Milbrandt was charged with four earned runs on five hits and five walks with four strikeouts.

Gibson stranded two batters on the basepaths that had walked in the sixth and Edgar Sanchez struck out three batters in the seventh.

Beloit was outhit 6-5 by Lake County and squandered a bases-loaded opportunity in the fourth. Olmstead was hit by a pitch with one out and Zamora and Montgomery both singled before Captains’ starter Parker Messick got back-to-back strikeouts.

Messick finished with 11 strikeouts and just four hits while not issuing a walk in 5 2-3 innings.

DeLeo walked and Tony Bullard singled to put two on with two outs in the sixth but reliever Magnus Ellerts got a strikeout to escape unscatched.

Zamora went 2-for-3 for Beloit while Genao paced Lake County with two hits and Collado drew three of the Captains’ eight walks.
