MIDDLETON, Wis. — The Beloit Junior Legion Bandits’ pitching was strong in a twinbill against Middleton but the Cardinals’ throwers were even more on point.

The Bandits (3-4) were swept by Middleton 2-1, 3-0 in the doubleheader at Adler Field on Sunday.

Beloit took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of the first game after Austin Driver started off with a walk, went to third when Evin Splan laced a double into left field and scored when the duo executed a double steal.

The Cardinals returned the favor in the sixth inning when Thoma Kydd reached on an error, moved to second on a single and stole both third and home to tie it up.

A scoreless seventh sent the game into extra innings, where Kayden Tyler started with a walk before Middleton recorded three outs. A walk-off RBI single by the Cardinals in the eighth then ended the game.

Jaxon Walenga had a strong outing from the mound, throwing all 7 2-3 innings and allowing just five hits and two runs (one earned) with a walk and four strikeouts. Tayvon Cates paced Beloit’s six-hit attack by going 2-for-3.

In the nightcap, Middleton scored a pair of runs in the first and added a run as they shut out the Bandits in five innings.

Beloit was limited to just two hits, singles from Diego Batista and Hayden Wells, both in the No. 9 spot. Easton Underhill started and allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and five walks with three strikeouts. Tyler finished with two scoreless innings as he struck out two.
