    Beloit's Tiffany Morton, Amy Gahl-Sweeney to join UW-W Hall of Fame

    WHITEWATER, Wis. — Tiffany Morton, who starred at Beloit Memorial High School and Amy Gahl-Sweeney, who was a standout at Parkview, are members of the UW-Whitewater Department of Intercollegiate Athletics 59th Hall of Fame Class.

    Morton and Gahl-Sweeney, who both graduate from UW-W in 2009, are joined by Suzanee Gersich Huss (2009), Beth Proeber (2006), Jace Rindahl (2010), Jeff Schebler (2010), Cassie Uttech Schroeder (2005), Ricky Spicer, Bob Stone and Bob Wickman will be inducted.

    Longtime UW-Whitewater Head Men’s Basketball Coach Pat Miller will be inducted under the category of staff/coach and Warhawk supporter Ray Jacobsen will be inducted for his distinguished service to the institution.

    All 12 individuals will be recognized for their contributions to Warhawk Athletics as part of the UW-Whitewater football team’s game against UW-River Falls on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 1 p.m. Inductees will be part of the Homecoming Parade, which begins at 10 a.m., will be honored at halftime of the football game and at the annual Hall of Fame Banquet, which begins following the contest at 4:30 p.m. at the University Center’s Hamilton Room.

    More information on the Hall of Fame Banquet, including registration, will be posted in August.

    Morton was a Division III All-American center for the UW-W women’s basketball team from 2007-09. A Division I transfer from UW-Milwaukee, she was a two-time All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection and WIAC All-Defensive team pick in 2009, a two-time All-Region honoree and two-time All-American.

    In her first season with the Warhawks, she led the team to its best season in program history with a 29-4 record, a WIAC tournament title and a run to the NCAA D-III Final Four. She was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team that season. She broke the program record for double-doubles with 28, rebounds in a season with 302 and free throws made in a season with 129.

    By the end of her collegiate career, Morton held top 10 marks in the UW-W record book in points (1215), points per game (14.0), rebounds (740), rebounds per game (8.5), blocks (98), field goals made (465), field goal percentage (.527) and free throws made (285).

    Morton, who was named to the Beloit Historical Society Elliott-Perring Sports Hall of Fame in 2012, became the new head coach at the NCAA Division II University of West Alabama women’s basketball team in May.

    Morton spent the 2024 season at the University of Wisconsin as an assistant women’s basketball coach, helping the Badgers win 15 games and advance to the quarterfinals of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament.

    Morton has also been an assistant at Rice, Georgia State, Mercer, Wagner, LSU and Montevallo.

    A native of Beloit who starred for Parkview’s Vikings, Gahl-Sweeney played outfield for the Warhawks from 2006-09 and was the first two-time All-American in Warhawk softball history.

    Gahl-Sweeney earned First Team All-America honors in 2009 and was Second Team in 2008.

    She added First Team Academic All-America recognition in 2009.

    A three-time All-WIAC selection, Gahl-Sweeney was named the league’s Player of the Year in 2007. A four-year standout for the Warhawks, she helped the team to conference titles and NCAA tournament appearances in 2008 and 2009 including a run to the national championship game in 2008.

    One of the most consistent hitters in the history of the WIAC, Gahl-Sweeney boasted a 29-game hit streak from 2007 into 2008 that broke the program record and ranks third in the league. She broke the WIAC record in career hits with 230 and still holds the league record for runs in a season (62) and career runs (185).

    Additionally, Gahl-Sweeney holds top 10 marks in the UW-W record book in batting average (.411), home runs (21), triples (10), doubles (45), runs batted in (138) and at bats (560).
