Beloit Sky Carp set to host drone show on Wednesday as squad readies for six-game homestand

    BELOIT—Look, up in the sky!

Is it a cloud? A sky carp? A plane?

No, it’s one hundred drones lighting up the night sky above ABC Supply Stadium.

As the Beloit Sky Carp prepare to begin a six-game homestand against the Cedar Rapids Kernels, a week full of promotions will be highlighted by an illuminated drone show following Wednesday night’s game.

The show, called “Celebration of America” is put on by Sky Elements Drone Shows, and it will feature those 100 illuminated drones moving in concert to produce images such as American flags and fireworks above ABC Supply Stadium in sync with patriotic music.

The postgame display is believed to be the first drone show of its size ever held in the Beloit area.

The Sky Carp said that the solar-powered drones also are an eco-friendly alternative to the normal firework shows as they leave less of a mess and make less noise.

The series kicks off on Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. In addition to the postgame drone show, Wednesday is also Waggin’ One Price Wednesday, where fans can bring their dog to the park and all fans may enter the park for $18, which includes a game ticket, soda, hot dog and chips.

Up next is Thirsty Thursday, where fans can purchase 12-ounce drafts of Busch Light for just $2 or 16-ounce cans for $4.

On Friday, the Sky Carp will take on the identity of the Supper Clubbers for “What Could Have Been Night” at the ballpark.

Back in 2021 when the then Snappers decided to change their nickname, a fan-generated contest was held to help pick the new identity. While Sky Carp won, Supper Clubbers were a close second. Friday night will show off some possibilities the name could have brought, with Beloit even filing to protect its right in the trademark for use in future seasons.

The team will wear special jerseys that feature both the Supper Clubbers and the Sky Carp, and there will be several promotional items related to the theme that evening.

The first 1,000 fans through the gate will also receive a Supper Clubbers bucket hat, sponsored by Kwik Trip.

Saturday will feature postgame fireworks and it is also Princess Night. Fans are encouraged to break out their dresses and tiaras and dress up as their favorite princess. Different princesses will roam the park and interact with guests throughout the night, and the Sky Carp are offering a special package that can be purchased that includes an hour and a half buffet, two hours of activity time with the princesses, and seating in the First National Bank & Trust Suite.

Sunday is Family Fun Day, so kids 12 and under will get to run the bases after the game and families can play catch in the outfield. The first 1,000 fans to arrive will receive a Sky Carp baseball cap sponsored by Drevdahl Auto Body.

This Sunday is also Bait and Tackle Day, which features a fishing competition on the Rock River before the game. Fans can check in outside the center-field gate, and the contest will start at 11:30 a.m. and end in the seventh inning. Those competing must bring their own equipment, and fans can go for as long or as short as they wish. All participants will receive a wristband to enter and exit the stadium before and during the game. All ages are allowed to compete, upon signing a waiver, and the prize will go to the winning catch of the day. A ticket to the game is required to participate.

    • LOOKING TO REBOUND: On the field, the Sky Carp will be looking to get back on track after falling in four of their six games against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers this past week.

Beloit, which is 2-8 in its last 10 games, is 6-9 in the second half of the season and in fifth place in the Midwest League West Division.

The Kernels are in first at 11-4 while Wisconsin is second at 9-6. Peoria is next at 8-7 then is Quad Cities at 7-8. The South Bend Cubs are last at 5-10.

Third baseman Tony Bullard and center fielder Jake DeLeo come into the six-game set hot from the plate. Bullard held a .368 batting average against the Timber Rattlers while knocking in four runs, and DeLeo hit .350 in the series while batting in three runs.

From the mound, Thomas White had a great start against Wisconsin as he allowed just one earned run on four hits and two walks while striking out three in five innings. Nigel Belgrave threw three scoreless innings of relief and struck out four while allowing just a hit, Josh White didn’t allow a hit in 2 2-3 frames out of the bullpen and Ignacio Feliz and Evan Taylor each threw two scoreless innings.
