BELOIT — The Beloit Sky Carp have had a few days off to recharge batteries as the Midwest League took a hiatus during the MLB All-Star break..

The Sky Carp resume play at Dozer Park in Peoria Friday night at 7:05 against the Chiefs. Beloit is currently fourth in the Western Division of the MWL at 10-11, 4.5 games behind Wisconsin. Peoria is currently third at 12-9, 2.5 games behind the Timber Rattlers.

Overall, Beloit is 40-44 and Peoria is 38-48.

Second baseman Josh Zamora continues to lead the Sky Carp in batting average (.276), home runs (16) and runs batted in (51). Shortstop Johnny Olmstead has a team-high 47 runs and outfielder Mark Coley II leads the team with 15 stolen bases.

    • TOP PROSPECTS: Sky Carp pitchers Noble Meyer and Thomas White took a break from toiling in the Midwest League over the weekend to compete in the MLB Futures Game in Arlington, Texas.

No surprise that they went as a duo.

The 19-year-olds have been pretty much inseparable since being selected by the Miami Marlins with overall picks No. 10 and 35, respectively, in last season’s draft.

Meyer is currently the No. 1 prospect in the Marlins’ organization with White coming in at No. 2.

Last season, they joined up at Single-A Jupiter by the end of the season and helped the Hammerheads win a Florida State League championship.

Right-hander Meyer started 2024 with Jupiter and went 2-2 with a 2.65 earned run average over eight starts before being promoted to Beloit. He has gone 0-2 with a 4.41 ERA in four starts with the Sky Carp. He has allowed only eight hits in 16.1 innings, with eight walks and 18 strikeouts. Foes are hitting just .145 off him.

Left-hander White also started this summer in Jupiter and went 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA. Since his promotion to Beloit, he is 1-2 with a 3.00 ERA in six starts. In 27 innings, he has allowed 21 hits and 12 walks with 37 punchouts. Opponents are hitting .208 off him.

The Sky Carp also have the Marlins’ No. 7 rated prospect in right-hander Karson Milbrandt. He is 1-4 with a 4.26 ERA over 67 2-3 innings. He has allowed 56 hits and 45 bases on balls while striking out 62. Opponents are hitting .226.

Middle infielder Yiddi Cappi is the No. 8 prospect and is currently on the 7-day injured list in Beloit. He has hit .237 this season.

Right-handed pitcher Jacob Miller, 20, is the No. 15 prospect. Drafted in the second round of the 2022 MLB draft after hitting 97 mph as an Ohio high school star, Miller has gone 4-4 with a 4.05 ERA for the Sky Carp. In 14 starts and 68.2 innings, he has allowed 70 hits with 25 walks and 60 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting .266 off him. He is coming off one of his best starts, a non-decision against Peoria in which he allowed only three hits and one run over five innings, striking out eight.

First baseman Brock Vradenburg also cracked the top 20 at No. 18. The 6-foot-6 Michigan State product was a third-round pick in the MLB draft of 2023 and has flashed some power with the Sky Carp since being promoted from Low-A Jupiter. Vradenburg has hit .268 in Beloit in 41 at-bats.

Several former Beloit players are also currently in the Top 20:

    • Speedy outfielder Victor Mesa Jr. played in Beloit in 2022, hitting .243 with 50 RBIs and is ranked as the Marlins’ No. 4 prospect. He is hitting .269 in 72 games in Triple A with Jacksonville and has 13 home runs and 48 RBIs.

    • Third baseman/first baseman Jacob Berry is predicted to be in the big leagues next season after playing in Beloit last year before being promoted to Double-A. He is back at that level this season with Pensacola, scuffled early on and has an overall batting average of .210. Over his past 10 games, however, he has hit .275 with a couple home runs and seven RBIs.

    • Left-handed pitcher Dax Fulton is the Marlins’ 12th rated prospect, having pitched well in Beloit last year. He is 2.4 with a 5.18 ERA for AA Pensacola. The Marlins will be patient with Fulton, who was the best prep southpaw in the 2020 MLB Draft and received a $2.4 million bonus.

    • Javier Sanoja, who has played both the outfield and middle infield, has moved up to No. 17 on the prospect list. He hit .267 in 131 at-bats for Beloit a year ago. He played 15 games in Pensacola before moving up to Jacksonville, where he has hit .294 in 272 at-bats with four triples, three home runs and 37 RBIs. He has walked 30 times and struck out just 16 times.
