Beloit resumed play in the Midwest League on Friday night on a winning note against Peoria, beating the Chiefs 7-3 at Dozer Park in Peoria.

Sky Carp shortstop Johnny Olmstead crushed a three-run home run to center field to open the scoring, then third baseman Josh Zamora followed that up with a solo shot of his own to give Beloit a quick 4-0 lead against Peoria’s Brycen Mautz.

The Chiefs hit back in the bottom of the third, which started with Beloit starter Jacob Miller plunking Michael Curialle then giving up a single to William Sullivan.

Two batters later, Peoria left fielder Alex Iadisernia hit a double to right field to bring Curialle and Sullivan in to score. Brody Moore followed with an RBI single and advanced to second on a throwing error by Olmstead.

But those three runs would be all Peoria could get. Miller settled in nicely from there for the Sky Carp, throwing seven innings and striking out four Chiefs with no walks.

Alex Williams and Xavier Meachem both worked a scoreless inning for Beloit with Meachem striking out the side in order in the bottom of the ninth.

The Sky Carp tacked on two runs in the fourth, the first of which came on one of four Peoria errors on the night. Later in the inning, Olmstead and Osiris Johnson executed a double steal of second base and home to make it 6-3.

Sam Praytor’s RBI base hit in the seventh gave Beloit its final run of the night.

Mautz took the loss for Peoria and dropped to 1-11 on the season with a 6.08 ERA.

The abbreviated three-game set between the teams continues with game two, scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Saturday in Peoria. Sunday’s game is scheduled for 2:05 p.m., then the Sky Carp return home next week for a six-game set against their in-state rival and Milwaukee Brewers affiliate Wisconsin starting Tuesday night.
