    Beloit Sky Carp sweep away host Peoria Chiefs

    PEORIA — The Beloit Sky Carp scored seven runs in the final two innings to break open a close game Sunday and rout the Peoria Chiefs 8-1 to sweep a three-game weekend sweep.

    Returning from the a-day All-Star break, the Sky Carp also won 7-3 on Friday night and also rallied for a 5-4 win in 10 innings on Saturday.

    Brock Vradenburg gave Beloit a 1-0 lead with an RBI double in the first inning. The Chiefs tied the score against starting pitcher Cade Gibson in the third and it stayed 1-1 until the eighth.

    Johnny Olmstead broke up the tie with a two-run home run in the eighth and Brett Roberts later added an RBI single.

    In the ninth, both Josh Zamora and Sam Praytor hit two-run doubles to put the game out of reach.

    Gibson allowed only one run in five innings. Relievers Yeuris Jimenez and Kyle Grigger each threw a scoreless inning and Evan Taylor tossed two scoreless innings to collect his third save of the season.

    Olmstead led Beloit’s nine-hit attack, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Zamora was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

    WEEKEND RECAP: The Sky Carp opened the unofficial second half of the season with their 7-3 win over the Chiefs on Friday night.

    Beloit outhit Peoria 9-6 and took advantage of four errors by the home team. The Sky Carp scored four runs in the third inning via the long ball. Olmstead hit a three-run homer and Zamora followed with a solo blast for a 4-0 lead.

    Peoria cut it to 4-3 in the bottom of the inning, but Beloit answered with two runs, including a steal of home by Osiris Johnson. Praytor had a two-out RBI single in the seventh.

    Jacob Miller (5-4) collected the win by going seven innings and allowing just three runs, while Alex Williams and Xavier Meachem combined to retire all six batters they faced to close the game.

    The Sky Carp rallied to win 5-4 in 10 innings on Saturday.Torin Montgomery delivered the big hit, an RBI single that scored Olmstead with the go-ahead run in the 10th.

    Reliever Josh White held Peoria in check in the bottom of the inning for a save.

    Vradenburg belted a two-run homer in the fourth inning.

    The Chiefs tied it in the fourth and took a 3-2 lead in the sixth with a two-run double by Zach Levenson. Roberts put Beloit back in front in the eighth with a two-out, two-run single, but Peoria tied it in the bottom of the inning.

    Emmett Olson started on the mound for Beloit and allowed three runs (two earned) in six innings while striking out four and walking one.

    • UP NEXT: The Sky Carp will host the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers for a six-game series starting Tuesday night. Promotions during the homestand include Harry Potter Night on Friday, Make-A-Wish Night on Saturday and Olympic Day on Sunday.
