BELOIT — Josh Zamora had really walloped the baseball in his most crucial at-bat of the night for the Beloit Sky Carp.

But unfortunately for his team, the third baseman's liner was sent right at Wisconsin Timber Rattlers’ shortstop Eduardo Garcia, who snagged it for the final out of the 10th inning in Beloit’s 3-2 loss on Thursday night in front of 1,227 at ABC Supply Stadium.

The Timber Rattlers take a 2-1 lead in the six-game series after snapping the Sky Carp’s five-game winning streak on Wednesday night.

Down 3-1, Jake DeLeo was the automatic runner for Beloit in the bottom of the first extra frame. Cameron Barstad wasted no time bringing his teammate home, smacking a line-drive single into left to cut Wisconsin’s lead to one run.

Timber Rattlers’ reliever Bayden Root struck out Chase Luttrell, but Jorge Caballero sent a hard-hit single back up the middle to move Barstad to second. But Olmstead struck out and Zamora’s knock was caught to end the game.

Tied at one after nine innings, Beloit sent reliever Evan Taylor out to keep it that way. Eduarqui Fernandez grounded out without advancing the runner, but Jheremy Vargas drew a walk and Luis Lara brought both home when he sent a double into right field.

Taylor, who fell to 3-4, got Tayden Hall to ground out and Matthew Wood to line out to keep Beloit within two runs.

Beloit’s offense jumped on starter K.C. Hunt early as Jake DeLeo singled into left with one out in the second, stole second and was quickly home on Barstad’s single into center.

Jorge Caballero walked but an Olmstead strikeout stranded a pair of runners, a recurring theme for both squads as the Sky Carp went 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position while leaving eight on base and Wisconsin went 2-for-12, also stranding eight.

Wisconsin tied it in the fourth as Luis Lara singled and was replaced by Jadher Areinamo on a fielder’s choice. Areinamo stole second and Luke Adams’ single into center sent him home.

It was the sole blemish of the night for Thomas White, who threw five innings and allowed an earned run on four hits with four strikeouts.

Hunt had a similar strong outing as he worked around six hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

Stiven Cruz allowed just one hit over three scoreless innings for the Timber Rattlers while Beloit got two scoreless innings from both Nigel Belgrave (one hit, one walk, three strikeouts) and Josh White (two hits, one walk, one strikeout).

Beloit had stranded two in the first frame after Caballero and Brock Vradenburg both singled. The Sky Carp put two runners on again in the fourth as DeLeo and Barstad each singled but failed to come around to score.

Wisconsin’s bullpen was dominant as Beloit didn’t even manage another baserunner after the fourth until the 10th.

Lara went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI for the Timber Rattlers while Beloit was paced by Barstad, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Caballero and DeLeo each added two hits.

One night after stealing 10 bases, Wisconsin swiped four bases with Areinamo, Garcia, Chirinos and Adams all racking up one.

The two squads will continue the series at 6:35 p.m. Friday.
