ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A 40-year-old man is charged with fatally shooting his girlfriend on Friday in Dutchtown. St. Louis prosecutors have charged Derrick A. Smith, of St. Louis, with first-degree murder, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm in the death of the 38-year-old victim, who has not been identified publicly.

According to police, a Nissan Altima driven by 18-year-old Joshua Snowbarger was southbound on Noland Road, approaching 35th Street in Independence. The driver lost control of the car.
