Child hospitalized following kidnapping and police chase

A child has been hospitalized after a fiery crash that followed an interstate police chase. The Anderson County Sheriff's Office responded to a home on Harris Avenue in Belton, Wednesday.

The Sheriff's Office says a father assaulted the mother of his child and kidnapped their three year old son. Deputies began to search along I-85 and then located the suspect vehicle across the Georgia state line and a chase ensued. The Georgia State Patrol then joined the chase.

The suspect crashed his vehicle near mile marker 166 in Georgia and the car then caught on fire with the child inside. Deputies then rescued the three year old from the car and the boy was airlifted to the hospital.

The suspect was then taken into custody, however the Sheriff's Office has not released his identity. There's no update on the child's condition, as of the time of the report.
