    All 40 Abandoned dogs at a Belvidere dog park have transferred to rescue shelters

    BELVIDERE, Ill. (WTVO) — All 40 abandoned dogs left at Hammertime Dog Park have been saved and transferred to rescue shelters.

    Wagging Hearts, North Central Maltese Rescues, Cause For Paws Rescue and Illinois & Boneifide Rescue have taken in the animals.

    Authorities are still working to discover who abandoned the 40 dogs on Monday morning.

    Mick Johnston took a video of the puppies running loose on the grounds and posted it to Facebook.

    The dogs were taken in by the Boone County Animal Services, who made a request for donations to help care for the sudden influx.

    “Thank you to everyone who has reached out in regard to the 40+ abandoned dogs at Hammertime Dog Park. Many folks are calling & we appreciate the concern. We are concentrating on all the dogs so forgive us if we are unable to return all the calls. We can certainly use your donations. Any monetary donations will be applied to our veterinary fund. Thank you for your patience & understanding,” the organization wrote .

    Boone County Animal Services encourages people to donate to the rescues as they care for the pups.
