Four Mississippi Groups Receive AARP Awards
JACKSON (GG) — Recently, AARP’s Livable Communities initiative has awarded more than $65,000 across four Mississippi nonprofits and government entities. Kimberly Campbell, state director for AARP Mississippi and former state legislator, said the grants aim to support quick-action projects to improve public spaces, transportation, housing and digital access. Campbell noted this year, AARP has awarded $3.8 million to 343 organizations nationwide. AARP Community Challenge grants will be implemented nationwide, with a quick turnaround for completion by Dec. 15.
MSU Extension offers next online Master Gardener class
Gardeners who want to improve their own skills and give back to their communities can take advantage of an online training and certification opportunity this fall. Registration for the next class of Master Gardeners opens Aug. 13 and closes Sept. 12. Participants can begin their training Oct. 1, and all coursework must be completed by Dec. 2. These expert volunteers are trained and certified in consumer horticulture and related areas by the Mississippi State University Extension Service.

VPD Addresses Officer Videoed Swerving on the Highway
The Vicksburg Police Department is addressing a VPD officer captured on video swerving on the highway. Here is a direct link to the video. The video of the VPD officer swerving across lanes on the highway was posted by a concerned citizen. On the video, the unit can be observed crossing the center line and swerving back into their lane several times. The unit then swerves from the center line to the exit at Clay without signaling.
