Southern Miss football announces four-game series with longstanding rival
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WLBT) - Southern Miss football is further renewing a long-standing rivalry after announcing a future four-game series. On Tuesday, Southern Miss and Louisiana Tech jointly announced the football series spanning from the 2029 season and concluding during the 2033 campaign, with both teams hosting a pair of games against one another.

Lady Eagles fell short in season opener against Madison St. Joe
In their season opener, Porter’s Chapel Academy‘s Lady Eagles took a loss to Madison St. Joe in game one but hung in tight in game two. In game one, PCA fell short 14-4 Mia Abdo led the Lady Eagles with two hits. Natalie Cantin hit a double and two RBIs while Marley Bufkin and Brooklynn Nicholson had a hit. Kinsley Luke pitched for PCA and finished with four strikeouts.

Federal judge dismisses lawsuit filed by Mississippi mother of boy shot by police
INDIANOLA, Miss. - A U.S. District Judge has dismissed a woman's lawsuit that she filed after her 11-year-old son was shot by police. Court documents show that Debra M. Brown, a U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Mississippi, dismissed the suit July 19 on the grounds that the woman who filed it, Nakala Murry, did not show that the previous judge made mistakes in his rulings.

Registration for the next class of Master Gardeners opens Aug. 13 and closes Sept. 12. Participants can begin their training Oct. 1, and all coursework must be completed by Dec. 2. Casey's buys CEFCO stores, to rebrand nearly 150 Texas locations in southern expansion
Casey's General Stores has announced the purchase of nearly 200 CEFCO stores, including almost 150 in Texas. The popular Midwest retail chain disclosed the $1.145 billion deal on Friday, in which it bought Fikes Wholesale Inc., owner of CEFCO Convenience Stores.
