BEMENT, Ill. (WCIA) — Two people are dead following a Saturday car crash in Piatt County that authorities said was caused by impaired driving.

Officials with the Illinois State Police and Piatt County Coroner Troy Dunn said the crash happened at 6 p.m. east of Bement. Two cars were involved — a Toyota Corolla and a Ford Edge.

ISP officials said the investigation indicated that the Corolla was driving north on County Road 1400E when it failed to stop at the intersection with County Road 900N. It hit the driver’s side of the Edge, which was driving west on 900N. Both cars left the road and overturned.

The driver of the Edge was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Dunn identified her as Kimberly Ogden, 50 of Monticello.

A passenger in the Corolla was also pronounced dead at the scene. Dunn identified him as Peyton Owen, 22 of Bement.

State Police said the driver of the Corolla is a 23-year-old from Hammond. The driver was taken from the scene of the crash to a nearby hospital.

The driver, State Police added, has been ticketed for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and for disobeying a stop sign.
