    ‘Structures remain threatened’ as Elk Lane Fire grows north of Bend

    PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — As the Elk Lane Fire in Jefferson County continues to grow, all three evacuation levels are still in effect as officials warn that “structures remain threatened.”

    On Tuesday evening, the Elk Lane Fire was reported to be 5,640 acres (8.8 square miles) with 0% containment, according to the Central Oregon Fire Management Service. That’s an increase from Monday morning when the lightning-sparked fire was estimated at 3,000 acres .

    Level 3 “Go Now” evacuation orders are in place for SW 17, SW 16, NW 10, and NW 9. Other surrounding areas. Level 2 “Be Set” evacuation orders are in place for NW 4 and NW 13. Level 1 “Be Ready” evacuation orders are in place for NW 12, SW 7, SW 21 and SW 23.

    The update comes one day after Gov. Tina Kotek invoked the Emergency Conflagration Act for the Elk Lane Fire and Telephone Fire in Harney County .

    A temporary evacuation site has been set up at Madras High School with Red Cross assisting on the scene. Evacuated animals are being sheltered at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.
